I think this Merritt guy you talked to is full of it. He's painting a lot of vehicles withn a broad brush, for example, an 880 Dodge or a CUCV is a civvy truck with green paint and fewer aminities than its civilian counterpart.
I contacted the Dixie Division president to see if he had heard anything, since he is also a county comissioner of his home county. He hadn't, but said he would check with a contact in the state revenue dept. Stay tuned.
If it's the winch driveline your'e looking for, I have one off a m246, which should be the same. Measure the length from the pto uotput shaft to the winch input shaft, and I'll see if it matches up.
Here's a link to the rally and trail ride pictures from our club web site. Has some good views of the truck in question.

It's the trail ride at Lamar Rowland's rally last October in south Alabama. They have the trail rides on Fridays at a nearby state forest. The M818 is owned by Ken Field. He used the truck on the cross country convoy last year, and had pulled the front driveline and machined the splines off...
Don't use the starter to try and free up the engine. Let the oil soak some more, turn the engine one way then another, a little at the time until you can turn it a full revolution. Once its freed up, turn it over three or four revolutions by hand. This will open the exhaust valves and allow...
The poster who identified it as a fuel trailer is correct. I saw it while inspecting some other lots up for auction. There is a data plate on the chassis identifying it as a fuel distribution unit. There is a lunette on the hitch, and it is adjustable. I didn't look too closly at the rest of...
The M246 is a gasser (R6602 Continental). The winch is the same as the later trucks. Give me the length you need and I will see if it matches. The chain and hook are sold. I have all major drive train parts and many wrecker specific parts including the complete boom assembly.
There's one on this M246 tractor wrecker I'm parting out. Yours for 40.00 since the u-joints might need replacing. I can bring it to Mobile if you know someone going there.
Anyone know how to clean the hydraulic filter on a M816 wrecker? The indicator on the filter housing says "clean filter", and I don't want to ruin a $100+ filter by improper cleaning. The manuals on site offer no guidance on the subject. Thanks.
