We drove a lot of unarmored stuff in the 15th Combat Engineers in Viet Nam. On July 4th I chatted with a combat engr. who just returned from Afganastan and am happy to hear that the Army is finally wising up to the idea that it would be nice to protect the crew from an IED blast. I guess the...
RE: Clean Up
That would be a great candidate for bobbing!
Non-turbo, so not a real strong puller for cargo, the hydraulic reservoir where the tool box used to be could be removed for ground clearance and the batteries have already been relocated, all you have to do is hook them up.
Is that...
Can anyone pick up and hold 8 heaters for my MKT-85 kitchen trailer at Ft. Sill for me?
I will be in Norman, OK on Friday, July 18th to help pickup an M109 van but Ft. Sill is not open on Fridays. The closest pickup schedule I have been able to get is Monday, July 14th.
The spec's say they...
RE: Re: RE: Deuce short comings
I either threw the magazine away or gave it away, but about a year ago an offroad mag showed an M715 with front-end Rockwells on BOTH ends. It steered on both ends with power steering and had a great turning radius, great ground clearance. It still had 9.00 x...
RE: Re: RE: Found out they ARE for something!
When my daughters marched in the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corpse we went to see them off for their West Coast tour. It was raining harder than I thought could happen in Colorado. The young guy in charge of vehicles pulled up their small trailer...
RE: Re: RE: TomB
I have a '66 M109A3 that has been to Iraq and back and love it. Most of the problems my truck has is that it is 42 years old. It has had good to excelent maintenance by the Arkansas National Guard. Judging by this piece of equipment, those boys run a strack unit.
I bent...
I bought 3 M105s and one had no lunette. To move it around I decided to use one from another trailer. Getting the nut to turn wasn't too difficult, but I didn't notice the ding in the threads of the lunette. I cranked and cranked 'til I got the nut off and to my disgust discovered that I had...
The only problem with these is they hang down and when GL picks the trailer up with a forlkift (and they have HUGE forklifts) they often pop the plastic wasp excluder off. I saw 6 for 6 like that at Ft. Carson. Nothing wrong with the valve except damaged wasp excluder which is easy!! to change...
The guys at Air Brake Specialties, Inc. were great. They rebuild the valves and he sent me 5 excluders which I have used on my trailers or given away. There was no other significant damage.
On the 3 units I have, 2 105s and 1 MKT-85, I am planning to aim the tank upward at a 45 degree angle...
I hope that when you tipped it on its butt you got away as clean as we did:

The legs on the corners of the MKT-85 are way cool! There is a crank in it each one.
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Grenade Shifter
I once broke the handle on a small ball peen hammer and thought the head would look good as a gear shift knob in my J20 (civilian M715). I welded a nut where the handle used to be and screwed it on. In the woods I hit a bump and the weight of the hammer...
I recently acquired an 1988 MKT-85 Mobil Kitchen trailer. It is in fantastic shape, but has been sitting in the sun for a couple of decades. All the canvas is rotten. It is also lacking all its 6 heaters.
Any help finding this stuff would be appreciated.

RE: My Apologies
If we ever get past the SF97 problem, I will be joining you with an M109A3, 1966 vintage. I hope to get it painted in Viet Nam era colors this summer. I have 5 SF97 applications in right now, including one for a trailer I already sold and delivered.
I missed the parade...
All I can say is that God must love a fool. I have dodged the consequences a lot of times. Having passed my half-century mark and then some, I have decided that I have pushed my luck as far as I can. I'm going to follow some of the above advice a little closer. I have downloaded the TM on...
Yup to all the above. It's not a matter of not knowing better, its a matter of taking precautions seriously. I had been crawling around on it with 3 of the decks down for about an hour before John arrived. It wasn't until both of us went to the rear (aft for you Navy guys) that trouble...
My experience with the folks at Ft. Riley, KS was all good. Same twice over with the folks at Ft. Carson, CO. Ft. Carson has pickup Mon - Thur because they are busy on Fri and can't help. By prior arrangement I have picked up stuff on Fri. if I didn't need help like hooking up to an M105.
I...
Thanks from me too. I was getting ready to search for that info. I will be putting my 109 on the road shortly and there are several things I needed to know about.
I have the 109 that sat next to jasonjc's. He got the one with power steering, the lucky sucker.
