IT’S A WHEEL CYLINDER! It’s too thin to be anything else. See how it has actually wet up the tire by the rim.
Last fall we brought a deuce from Norman, OK to Denver. When we picked it up it had NO brakes. There was no fluid in the MC and evidence that it had leaked out the RRR wheel...
The '52 M37 in your avatar is painted in pre-'68 paint scheme and looks like 2 different ones I drove in '67 and '68; both were '50 models rebuilt in '66. I am planning to paint my '66 M109 in pre-'68 fashion. Just out of curiosity, why pick the CARC style? I really like the looks of your M37.
My '66 Kaiser M109 is a non-turbo diesel built by Continental Motors but, as you can see in my avatar, has no stack. The exhaust comes out between the right side duels about level with the top of the tires.
Interstate regulations east of the Mississippi require a clearance of 13' 0", and...
As a restorer of old 4x4s and now a '66 deuce, bad electrical connections can cause lots of problems. Before getting out the wallet, take every electrical connection apart and clean it. A .17 caliber cleaning brush will help reach into some of the connectors.
Check the ground strap between the...
I bid on my m109 (avatar) without knowing much about the process or MVs. I won the bid on June 25th and got laid off June 26th. My original plan was to have it hauled, but that plan soon changed. It's 11 ft. tall, so it requires a lowboy trailer. I began making other plans.
I called...
RE: Re: Big Tires and O.D. Iron Wheels are On.
Those are directional tires and are put on correctly for an all-wheel drive vehicle. Just a thought, what if you turned the front wheels around the other way?
Have you ever noticed that equipment like road graders often put directional tires on...
GL will lock my account 'til I pay a 25% fine. Maybe this is like gambling and this is the cure.
From what I understand about the way the Army works, they rebuild vehicles periodically. I have a rebuilt M105 trailer with a tag dated 2006 that looks absolutely brand new. The 'hairs' are still...
That rusty bearing scares me! I'm going to have to get my '66 M109 indoors this winter and get a look at all mine.
Impressive work! It gives me new resolve to finish one of my "Let's do the whole thing while we're at it" projects.
I didn't get the major item I was bidding on for a trip to the Northwest, so I can't afford to go for the engine by itself and commercial freight is out of sight. If anyone wants to pick up the bid on it here it is...
I have always had great fear and respect for PTO winches, as opposed to electric.
I don't want to even start to tell you what happened in the 244th Engr. Bn. when we got a 290 earthmover stuck in the mountains of Eastern Colorado and a cocky buck sgt. with a M123 10 ton tractor thought he...
I have an engine in a container weighing 400 lb. that I need hauled from Ft. Lewis to Denver, CO (or somewhere nearby).
I am willing to pay toward fuel.
Alternatively, is there someone in Ft. Lewis that could pick it up and hold it for me 'til I can get up that way?
Arlyn
Ft. Carson to home was only 90 mi. and the M105 was empty, 2700 lb. Even so, it jerked the Bronco around a bit.
We picked up a kitchen trailer in Utah and towed it 350 mi. with a more appropriate vehicle, a F250 diesel. I estimated it weighs 4,000 lb. We did take the time to flip the...
The method I always use is to put a hose over the end of the bleeder to catch fluids and drain it into some type of bottle. Have a friend in the cab to operate the pedal; open the bleeder with the pedal UP, press the pedal down and hold, close the valve and release the pedal; repeat 'til your...
When we picked up a deuce (M109A3) at Norman, OK it had no brakes. There was evidence that it has lost a lot of fluid out the right rear wheel and the master cylinder was dry. We filled the master cylinder and bled the offending wheel cylinder and we had symptoms similar to what TSmallwood is...
Nice work, an inspiration.
I have a 1983 J20 (M715's civilian cousin) that I am rebuilding from the frame up after it was stolen and wrecked. I'm hung up on a bent rear axle housing right now, a Dana 60 with limited slip. I had the original AMC 360 cui rebuilt and balanced. I'll be happy...
I know that several people have titled trucks and trailers in Colorado. I can't believe that everyone has been getting the run-around like I have. I am mad enough to chew the heads off of nails!
Questions:
Do you have to have VIN inspection on Trucks?
Do you have to have VIN inspection on...
Msgt Lee was great when we picked up an M109A3 with no brakes. See this posting:

I need to look up the same info, so thanks for posting it.
Something my dad taught me that has made a lot of sense since then is that it is harder to get a nut off than to put it on. Don't believe that? It has to do with 'starting friction'. It takes a larger amount of force to get something...
