If you do this mod you had better hide the button. Not for security per se but to keep the glowplugs alive.
If you have someone come along and fat fingers it for 20 or 30 seconds then they have smoked your plugs and you get to start changing them again.
People aren’t really smart and kids...
I will field this one.
First it makes the same or more horsepower than the big block with considerably less weight.
It’s fuel injected so it’s no fun to crank whenever you want no matter what the temp or humidity is.
It’s plug and play with a 4l80e so you get overdrive.
Wiring is a snap...
Just go with a LS Motor. You can get your 4l80e along with the same amount of horsepower as well an easy harness to deal with.

Well I hit the glow plugs and after a little spinning and some white smoke she come to life! Let her run for 15 min and tucked her away again.

We have quite a bit of white death (snow) on the ground here in MS. Thankfully we still have power but I think I will take the opportunity to go see how she cranks in the cold.

You are not the only one that has had the pleasure of having a gushing oil well in the cab of their truck. Jed Clampet would have been proud.

Sorry. I had a two year old in my lap when I wrote that. It didn’t go well. I meant to say gauge. Aftermarket gauge.
Just plug it in and compare it to the info you are getting from the military gage.
This is my opinion. Never trust any military gauge. Ever
If it were really down to zero oil...
Grab an off the shelf Hague from the parts house and plumb it in where the current sending unit is. That will give you some better data.

There are plenty of people running puck style lifts to get 2 ish inches in the front. That will level the truck out and allow you to run a 40 inch tire.
I got mine from Custom Combat Trucks in GA. It’s only about a 3/4 inch spacer that goes above the coil.
It’s nominally harder on the...
Make sure it’s not one of the heat shields on the exhaust manifold rattling. I fell victim to that racket. I thought the transmission was toast. After accidentally making it stop it ended up being a 1 zip tie fix.

I just don’t know that a 20 plus year old diesel needs a remote start.
I would want to make sure I had oil pressure and everything sounded like it is supposed to when I crank it.

Download the TM’s and start reading. That will do more to help you than anything.
Service the hubs and check the seals, drop the trans pan and change the filter, change the fuel filter, instal a grounding harness to help keep your smart box alive. Drop and replace the fluid from the transfer...
Has the truck been serviced? Fluids and filters all the way around? If not start with that.
Never trust a military gauge. Ever. Replace the sending unit. That is likely your issued.
The volt gage really is a big deal. One of the biggest problem areas with these trucks is the charging...
Does it quit after about a min? If it’s only at startup and only for a short time that is the glowplugs continuing to cycle.

I would contact red river equipment. They are just around the corner and they have the room and the equipment.
