Just got her home. Kind of a late night, so I will post pics and more info tomorrow. One tidbit, though. He said he stopped at a scale and grossed out at 43k. I had guessed it at about 35k. Wow. More to come.....
RE: Re: RE: 1954 M135 for sale in Raleigh, NC
Do those old GMC deuces match up with any sort of civilian truck? In other words, if you bought one, would you be able to find parts from non-military sources? It's by my experience that you can still walk into a CarQuest and get parts for a 50...
Quick update, I just talked to the trucker. He was loaded up and leaving the lot. I asked him about the weight and he said it was no problem. As this is a shipping company and not just some yay-hoo, I have to believe that he is aware and mindful of the DOT regulations and such. As pointed...
That's a stretch. I haven't documented anything. I said I personally wouldn't do it, but I have ZERO experience in the commercial hauling business. I (nor anyone else here) knows the GVWR of the truck nor how much the fire engine weighs. It is his company, they are liable.
Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Trailering a deuce
He didn't say 130,000 on his 3500, he said 130,000 on his TT. Of course, I don't know what TT means....maybe tow truck? Tractor-trailer? Anyway, it wasn't on his 3500.
Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Trailering a deuce
Agreed, and if it was me, there's no way I would do it. But I'm not going to feel bad about it if he has a wreck. It's their responsibility until it comes off the truck. If I hire a guy to mow my lawn and he cuts someone's foot off b/c he's...
Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Trailering a deuce
I understand your concern. It's a valid one and that's why I made this post to see what you guys thought. However, it's the shipping company's responsibility to make sure the load is safe. This is the third trucker I've been to (due to...
Re: RE: Trailering a deuce
It wasn't the lowest bid. He was selected b/c of the large amount of positive feedback, reputable-looking website and company and the fact that he has hauled these before. I'm not saying I would do it that way, but it's really up to them. They have insurance and...
Re: RE: Re: RE: Trailering a deuce
He works for a shipping company, so it's not just some fly-by-night kid, or at least the company is not, anyway. They have insurance. As much as I want to get my truck tomorrow, it's really their problem if things don't work out.
Re: RE: Trailering a deuce
Hey, doc, it ain't my truck. I'm hiring someone to haul my deuce. This is his rig. That's why I posted the question in the first place.
Re: RE: Trailering a deuce
Thanks, yes it has been a long ordeal. Funny how having a 1 year-old and a 3 week-old puts a damper on cross-country vehicle recoveries.
He says he's hauled several of these trucks for other people and has dealt with GL before, so I assume he knows what he's...
Re: RE: Trailering a deuce
I hope you're right. I've never tried to haul anything like that, so I don't really have a frame of reference, it just seemed like a lot to me. I've always subscribed to the "use something as big or bigger than your load" theory when it comes to hauling.
