A hard start kit helps the compressor start.
Inrush current (LRA) of a motor that a gen will start does not translate into generator surge rating, IMO.
Generator surge rating, IMO, should represent what a gen can handle for 2-5 seconds or a few minutes per hour.
Maybe apples/oranges.
RWA = Round Wheel Arch. The early Sprites and 71-74 Midgets had them. The others had Square Wheel arch. If the rear wheel is partially covered by the rear quarter panel then you have a Square Wheel Arch.
The Yanmar is the jewel of the whole thing.
Your frame cage is missing. Isaac is probably right, that probably is a 400Hz set that someone stuck a 60Hz gauge in to pass it off.
If they doctored the gauge like that then the regulator might be missing, too. Look inside the box. If the...
Nice MG. Is is a RWA?
ASK should be worth $100-200, in my opinion. It is worth quite a bit in just scrap Aluminum. My 003 ASK had the insulation in bad shape but having the panels you can line the inside with some good, modern insulation.
BTW, you did good considering you got a Diesel...
The make motors like new. My MEP-016D had a new Yanmar motor put on a gen head from 1969. They keep the old gauges, frame, and stuff but I think the motors are essentially completely rebuilt.
Almost certainly rebuilt. You would not want them if they had been sitting for 28 years.
According to the link below you need 7.5kW "real power" for a 3 ton AC. I think you have that with the 002.
Generator Sizing for Home or Commercial Use
Best just pose the question:
Has anyone run a 3...
That sounds about right. I'm a sound tech by trade.
"A" weighting emphasizes 3-6kHz frequencies because that is where human hearing is most sensitive. It neglects some of the lower frequencies.
Some frequencies are "harsher" than others. An 85dB tone at 3kHz might be more annoying than an...
I'll defer to your experience over mine. But, I don't think the windings in an 002 will take a 15kW load for any period of time, not even a surge of just a few seconds. Even if we suppose the windings could take the load, the motor can't deliver the horsepower required to generate 15kW.
In...
Power factor is real vs. apparent power. You do not multiply power factor times rated output to get anything.
I think it is more like the gen has to make 10 Amps to deliver 8 Amps to the load. 8/10 is 0.8PF.
I'm not a math wiz but I believe 7.5 is 150% of 5.0.
In my opinion you can probably run that gen at 7.5kW load till the cows come home.
Motors and compressors and such have different characteristics, though. Many have very high startup power draws.
If it were mine I would test it by gradually...
I thought the OP was asking about an 002. Maybe I'm just confused but I'm positive that an 002 won't drive a 15kW load. An 003 will. But, before something goes POOF! we should make things clear. MEP-003A has 140 cu. in. displacement 4 cylinder Diesel motor and will drive 15kW load. MEP-002...
Uh, no. I think you could drive 7.5kW load all day long, and maybe surge up to 10kW but a twin cylinder 1800RPM gen ain't gonna drive a 15kW load for any length of time.
The 003A is military rated 10kW and the civilian version doesn't have the oil cooler that the military version has and is...
My MEP-003A came with the DC charging regulator disconnected. I looked in the TMs but couldn't find much on testing and wiring it.
Can anyone shed any light on testing the unit or which wire goes where? There are three wires on the bottom, one with a red sleeve, and two wires out of the top...
IMO, Yanmar > Onan when it comes to MEP-016s. I like the pull rope a lot. The MEP-016D uses a Yanmar L70. I would trade one of my 701As for a very nice 016D. The Onan single cylinder Diesel is a stout, good motor, IMO, too, but I just like the Italian/Japanese Yanmars.
When you change the switch, you change the wiring to the terminals. The convenience outlet on the front panel is for lights or whatever and is not affected by the output switch located inside the box.
A 701A with the panels removed is a 016B or 016E.
Let me know if you want to get rid of the end panels that go on the fuel tank end. I have the other 4 panels, but am missing those two.
It seems like all my Diesel MEPs smoke a bit at startup. Those one or two revs that don't ignite and the...
