dg - Of course you are right, I meant only that it was POSSIBLE, not that it was PRACTICAL to do so. As so many others on this post mentioned, you would narrow the front track width, but a the expense of having to remove the front brakes and drums. And would the wheels even fit between the...
I've seen enough "broken injector line" posts that it seems to be a fairly common problem. I guess it's time to throw a set of injector lines in the "spare parts" box under the companion seat!
RE: Re: RE: lock up deuce brakes
Yes, on dry pavement as a test. Locked up all wheels tighter that a bull's ass in fly time! Scary feeling, truck started sliding sideways, let up on the brakes and she straightened out, but not a comfortable feeling. This was with stock 9:00-20s, a more...
I disagree. The front and rear hubs are the same part number. If you can flip the rears, you SHOULD be able to flip the fronts also. Don't know why you would want to do so, don't know what effect it would have on the front brakes, probably none, but it is physically possible. Don't know your...
I'm good for 10 tires IF they can be made to fit on a stock Deuce 20"x7.5" wheel. If they do I'll start a new "Group Buy" posting, if we can come up with enough buyers to get a full trailer load dropped off at my LZ and buyers are willing to pick them up here we may have a good deal going!
I've seen it said the stock fan pulls 13 HP, seems a bit high to me though, on a truck with only 130-140 net HP to begin with. If it DOES take anywheres in the range of 10-13 HP, that's going to make a measureable difference in MPG. Ernie - any idea how much current your fan draws when running...
I've been PMing with a guy from Charlotte, SS name is bigmech. Don't know if he is the same guy you are talking to or not. If I ever hear back from Rodney and he wants to deal, I'll see what he will do for a whole trailer load of tires delivered to me. Maybe we can do a group buy and get a good...
JimK - I'd suggest to start with the turbo. Don't worry about 12-14 PSI boost, most LDT turbos run 7-8 PSI tops. Install a pyrometer (about $125) and a 15 PSI boost gauge (about $45) then you can work with the fuel adjustment to get you up to a safe power level without melting your turbo. Just...
MUCH better looking! Looks like most of your radiator is getting now air flow and is cooling your coolant without much help from the fan. Seems to me the problem is solved! Gotta get me one of those fans!
Ernie - I don't disagree with you at all. You are right, clutchless shifting can be done IF you know what you are doing. Same with double clutching, necessary on a non synchro truck IF you know how to do it, of dubious value on a synchro vehicle. I've done both when I had to (blown clutch on my...
Here are a couple of pics with Deuces with 50 Cals. on ring mounts. One is a display from HI, one a service truck on duty in Iraq. You figure out which is which!
Just the opposite. Biodiesel is a solvent. Running Bio will dissolve all the crud in your fuel sytem that diesel didn't. All that crud ends up in your fuel filters. Normal practice is to plan at least TWO extra fuel filter changes shortly after converting to bio as all that crud the diesel left...
I grew up on manual transmissions, back in the day when you had a restriction on your driver's license if you took your driving test in an automatic!
That said, I am not all that excited about double clutching, unless you have a vehicle with a non synchromesh tranny, then you HAVE to double...
Jimk - Something strange is happening in your engine. The "sweet spot" for fuel economy is 1600-2200 rpm, above 2200 fuel usage climbs drastically. As it happens, most of my driving is rural, generally in the 1600-2200 rpm range, over a 300 mile test period I averaged 12.5 mpg.
Same with the...
RE: What other engine trany combo
I have a couple of engines I bought from GL at Columbus OH, should have them in a few weeks. One looks absolutely cherry but is non turbo. You are not that far from me, if you are interested when I get them you can take a drive over and take a look. One of them...
Ernie, I think there is more going on here than we understand. As you can see from my avatar, my Arctic grille cover blanks out more of the radiator than your plywood cover, but I am still running the stock fan and my engine temp seldom gets above 180 degrees, even in 85+ degrees ambient. What I...
