1970 Jeep M35A2 Tail light /brake light problem

Glad you got it all working. Instead of a relay, you can use a diode. Also, I believe that someone on this forum posted a jumper you can add to the back of the headlight switch that will do the same thing.

    That it will! Good point.

    rear axel placement on bobber

I have wondered why you could not split the stock rear suspension in half. Cut the spring so that you have a quarter elliptic. The thick section remains clamped in place, and the front is the same slipper. The torsion rods locate the axle. Done (theoretically) is there a flaw in this approach?

    Cleaning up an M416

OK, how did you do it? I am on the Maine DMV site and it looks like a two-year registration for a trailer, and you need to be starting with a Maine registration. Please disclose the secret handshake. :)

1970 Jeep M35A2 Tail light /brake light problem

X2 This is the sort of problem you see when there are one or more flaky grounds.

    Wanted 12volt B/O driveing Light

I happened to be on the Saturn Surplus site today and they indeed have a 12v plastic version, and that is indeed where I got mine. It is something like $28 and it has a conventional singly filament bulb inside. Mine casts a nice flat pattern down in front, just like it should.

    Deuce Tailgate Crane

Thank you all for the responses. There are some pretty good alternatives and ideas that have been posted. I am still not sure how I will handle this. I do not want to 'cut' my Deuce, so while I can drill a few holes i probably will not cut the troop seats back or perform heavy modifications...

    Too Much Smoke?

One explanation given for the addition of the turbo was to decrease smoke.

    Cleaning up an M416

The cover was built by the trailer's PO. It is 1/2" plywood, two pieces lengthwise (because of the width) joined by a 1 by. Underneath is a figure-8 frame of 2x4's that fit inside the lip of the bed. I sits level and I throw a couple of straps across it to keep it on. While the lid is...

    Cleaning up an M416

My M416. Is the stock wiring harness fat enough to handle12 volts instead of 24 volts? Twice the voltage, half the current for the same wattage bulb. I am not sure if the military took advantage of a lighter gauge wire for their 24 volt systems.

Diesel Fuel Additives/Conditioners - Good Stuff or Snake Oil

How much do you add, and at each fill-up?

    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

Probably because they are not needed. The asymetrical design sets up a kind of triangle, the best sshape for an articulating suspension. This is even more so if my 'torsion rods twist' hypothesis is correct. Adding torsion rods would make it difficult or impossible for them to twist as they...

    Torque rod/dogbone mod and removal

The various threads on torque rods and their inspection, replacement and (like on this thread) modification got me wondering about the design. At first I was paranoid that the torque rods in my own Deuce might suddenly decide to go on strike. That was followed by the following insights, which...

Diesel Fuel Additives/Conditioners - Good Stuff or Snake Oil

I have read elsewhere on this forum tha, in the US, today's low-sulfur diesel is not the best for our old FI pumps that depended on high sulfur levels for pump lubrication. If this is true, it would seem that a lubricity additive might be indicated. Somewhere else again on the forum, I read...

    BlizzardX23's Deuce STOLEN and RECOVERED

What about a positive fuel shut-off? Perhaps a valve mounted discretely in the cab.

    M38A1 Harness for Civilian Jeep

The cost I can justify if it eliminates the time for wiring for a custom harness - the rule of thumb is one hour per circuit. I was also looking forward to just plugging everything in to the back of the three-lever switch. The metal shell connectors are not as compelling to me as the rubber...

    M38A1 Harness for Civilian Jeep

I hope that this post is not off topic for this forum. My DD is a 1990 civilian YJ Jeep. The stock lighting wiring harness is showing its age as well as indignities wrought by prior owners. I am a bug about good wiring; this 20-year old wiring is just not aging well, and on its best day it...

    Wanted 12volt B/O driveing Light

I got a 12volt unit from one of the on-line surplus vendors. I am sorry that I do not remember who; it might have been Saturn but I am not sure. However, it has the single contact conventional bulb inside. It is a plastic knock-off and it was not expensive. Here is are a couple of photos - I...

    BlizzardX23's Deuce STOLEN and RECOVERED

I agree that the perp was likely ex-Service. He knew how to start the truck, knew where first was, and (fortunately) was rusty or nervous enough to miss the shift into second. He also called it a 5-ton. Maybe in the Service the Sergeant wailed on him because of something he did with a truck...
