My top ten of what I have done so far:
1 - Adjust pedals down to the lowest setting.
2 - Removed driver's seat back.
3 - Replaced alternator belts - there was just one on the truck - a pair, 1/2" shorter as recommended by SS
4 - Topped off master cylinder.

My Deuce also came with 11 by 20 singles. I like the looks of duals better, but I plan to stick with the singles. The 11 by 20 singles do not look that bad and I should pick up some mpg and also less inertia to get rolling or for the brakes to stop.
BTW I am running my Deuce up to VT this...
I am very supportive of your change to a whistler as that is something I would like to do to mine some day. Please post plenty of pix and text as you complete that part of the job. :D
One more obstacle surmounted before my trip. I got my state inspection today. Previously, the inspector gave me a hard times about grease on the outside of the steering knuckles and play in the drag link. The grease was all behind the backing plate so it should not have been a problem. But...
Thank you, my fellow Teslite! I have roughly 200 miles to drive and I am figuring six hours with a fuel stop (to take advantage of low MA fuel prices). I don't plan on going any faster than 2200 rpm and hopefully I will not get barn fever with 60 miles to go and start racing up (strike that)...

If you don't find the problem in the carb, check to see if your fuel pressure is too high.
I have also set the float a little lower on carbs that did what yours is doing. It gives a little more leverage on the needle.
