As I've gotten older and sadly weaker it's harder to do simple tasks on the Deuce. Like check battery water levels. So anything I can do now to make it easier will only help me down the road.
Oh, your talking about the "boost pump" . Yeah that will start to be a problem down the road. Of course the whole engine will start to be a problem in coming up years. Injection pumps, oil pumps, gaskets, you name it. Repowering these riggs will be a new job for some people in the up-coming...
I too at first disregarded the ability of the NP205 to handle the torque and power needed for the Deuce. But after researching it I found out it could be done.
There is a company in Canada which makes "super duty" gears and shafts for the NP205 enabling it to handle power ratings of 2,000 HP...
Stock brake pressure is around 800 PSI max. I have a pressure gauge on my system. Like Peashooter said, going with a Hydraulic HydroMax system is the "Cadillac" way to go but it would be pricey.
After awhile just taking your axles out and putting them under a modern truck for a 6X6 rigg makes...
Thanks Guy.
So they made you a Moderator. About time ! You have the most knowledge on these generators then anyone I know !
On a side note. My son might be going to Germany for a spell. It's a college thing since he is in advanced German language classes. Actually he might be going for a...
To bad my shop isn't finished yet ! I would love to get a 5 ton. Glad to hear you didn't catch the crap covid ! Both my wife and me got the "long" running kind. Actually I guess it's your body that determines how fast you kick this crap. My chest still hurts at times and feels like I need to...
Olympus still sells the original pump. Pricey though !!! The Airtex type pumps really don't supply enough "volume" of fuel. Yes they can provide enough pressure when there not taxed, but if you need more fuel they fall flat. MRAP pumps will work, as will several from armored units out there...
I would use it. Remember the seal is a large rawhide seal. It covers a large surface area, so any imperfections usually will not effect anything. I would use synthetic grease on the housing also. I have the Hydraulic fluid the military spec'ed out for this job, ( expensive stuff ! ) but really...
No problem.
The cost of an overdrive kit now would be around $5000.00 . My machinist friend said he could have gotten it down to maybe $3,000.00 a unit, but he would need to make at least 50 units. Then his building got sold so no more machinist to help. That is why I've been concentrating on a...
Yes I took a little "sabbatical" for two years to try and get things done around here. I usually spent three hours a night on Steel Soldiers, time I could have used on projects that needed to get done. So when I got a slap on the wrist for not playing nice I took that as a sign that I needed to...
I installed some heavy duty slides for my battery tray after checking my batteries and almost giving myself a Hernia pulling out the tray !
Here are some pictures of the finished project.
The slides where bought from a company in England that supplies parts for emergency vehicles. Like pull out...
Are you referring to the "Hydra-Boost" type booster ? There on the frames for safety reasons. These are either vacuum boosted or pressure boosted units, depending on enginee type ie: Diesel/Gas.
Is that what your asking ?
I've gone back and reread several pages to get up to speed here, and it...
Yeah, all the good deals on 5 tons have come and gone ! Missed the boat there myself.
Hey did you ever catch "covid " ?
I'm fighting my second round right now. Got all the shots and booster too. Sucks ! I don't know if my lungs will ever be the same again. I think I coughed up my left lung last...
Hey Montaillou. I tried to buy a HEMMET a few years ago, but the wife had a fit and fell in it ! To answer your original question, your brakes are the limiting factor on a Deuce. That and the suspension over-hang from the rear axles. Remember your pivoting point would be where the Brace Rods...
Hey Aussie Bloke, nice to see you still around.
You could just join the military. They have excellent courses on getting out of mud holes for all types of vehicles ! Or just read the operators manual on your truck.
Hey Montaillou , you still out there ? I've been out for awhile and lost touch with almost everyone. Did you ever make it to Europe with your Deuce ?
