It's mostly done for cosmetic reasons. If you go to super singles (A1 or A2), depending on the offset of the wheels many flip the hubs to push the wheels more outside. It can also add to stability and align the front and rear wheels to the same track.

Can you read the numbers on the plate, on the engine? (the plate is on the passenger side of the engine, should be able to see it easily with the hood up) If you can have a conversation while the engine is running, it's probably a D turbo. If you want to learn a little bit, read the Wikipedia...
