Removed all four lower torque rods and brackets. Cleaned up brackets for a quick repaint. The rods will go to the machine shop for new ends this week. I was going to take all six rods off, but I can't get to the uppers behind the spring pack with my tools. I ordered an offset boxhead wrench...
I like the fact they have finally engineered a fail safe into the torque rods. I have seen the retention plate mod here in the forums, but it nice to see it actually adopted at the manufacturer's level.
Hosted a Cub Scout Recruitment Event at a local park for my son's Pack. The truck was part of the welcome committee complete with all flags, US, POW-MIA, US Army and the Gadsden, flying.
Was hotter than Hades out here so the truck went topless.
Nice tires[thumbzup] I changed to G177's about a year ago. I won't go back to NDT's. The radials are much better riding tire. They are a bit larger in diameter and look better under the 5-Ton. I also prefer the duals and don't care for super-singles of any size.

Installed a new rear main seal and put the truck all back together again Saturday Aug. 11.

Now, I just have to reinstall the front drive shaft and I'm pulling the oil pan for a new gasket.
Old one-piece oil seal housing
A note about the single piece oil seal housing, the TM is still incorrect in saying to install the housing then the seal. The seal must be driven into the one-piece housing from behind. The two-piece design will allow one to remove and install the seal with the...
Oil seal install
I have been slacking off in my reporting, so here goes…
Last Saturday my neighbor and I finished up the rear main seal/clutch job. All went fairly well. We started by unbolting the starter from the flywheel housing. Using a cargo strap, we suspended it from the forward...

:ditto:Wish me luck. Diggin' deep tomorrow. Gonna get this "son-of-a-beehive mother fletcher" running, if I have to tear my last strands of hair out.[thumbzup]
Will, Is that a Mi-Jack or a Drott crane (container gantry) in the photos. I think you've been hangin' around the railyard to much and the diesel fumes are gettin' to you:roll:. I say keep the ole' girl in her original glory and wedge it in a corner down at the museum. I have an idea...
I thought it was a Dutch army truck;-) I'm neither here nor there with him. I grew up and served with the M-series trucks and they speak US Military. I am just partial to the old iron.
Install seal into housing
There is a prominent lip in the housing portion to seat the seal against. I first test-fitted the seal into the housing with the seal lip facing into what would be the engine block. Using a soft plastic headed hammer, I drove the seal fully into seat using light taps...
Oil Seal Housing details
Well, since I drilled into the outer edge of the oil seal housing (AKA rear cover), I decided to purchase a new one. I ordered it from Memphis Eq. under p/n 216165. The part is actually two parts, the oil seal housing and the outer ring/o-ring carrier. Mine came with...
Agreed.
Sounds like the governor is doing its job keeping the air pumped up. Like said, definitely check out the air dryer. Oh, and make it a habit of draining your air tanks after ops.
I know on my 5-Ton (M809 series) the governor will do something similar to what you get upon shut down. I am slowly but surely fixing slow leaks in my system, but I have never experienced a drop in pressure like you get while the engine is running. Seems like your air dryer is blowing down way...
