I did it once in the 818. Luckily I was on a two lane road only doing 35MPH. Saw the hood bounce and pulled over to remedy the problem before catastrophe. Haven't done it since. I also check the hold downs with the lights. I just got a new (to me) hood so I will be doubly careful. As a side...
Did you do this conversion and, if so, with a kit or individual parts? Any modification required to the radiator mounting? Inquiring minds want to know. I'd like to enjoy more Cummins power sounds than the suck of Hoover.
Check everything rubber from the tank to the IP. More than likely you have dry rotted fuel lines and the system is sucking air somewhere. It does sound like a loss of prime due to drain back. I was taught by a well known Cummins guy around these parts to put my foot into the accelerator and...
Even with the pump loosened up and turned toward the accessory drive pulley, the belt will still be snug to get on. Don't fret. Just pull out the pump and slip the belt on it. Then reassemble. I reused the gasket and pump. The gasket is copper, I believe. Just make sure the gasket is clean and...
I recently got a new vinyl 383 green cab top. The Velcro did not line up with the outer holes on the windshield or rear/top support tube. My original support tubes had a few too many holes drilled in them, one was slightly bent and I just wasn't happy with them. So I replaced them with a very...
I used two group 34's (1000CCA's) in the M818 from Grandma Kirkland (Costco). I used the existing hold down clamp and j-bolts, but had to install some wood blocking between them to hold steady side to side. Two are enough to crank the 855 in the So Cal.
On the subject of parking and environmental friendliness:
-I'm often asked where do I park it (the 5-Ton). I often reply, "Wherever it likes."
-You' ve heard of PZEV's and ZEV's...well, my truck is just simply an EV, an Emissions Vehicle. Do they have special stickers for that?? Man, I love...
Since I did all my coolant hoses at the same time I did the belts, with radiator drained, I just removed the radiator. Four bolts, the upper and lower shrouds and soldier B will do it. Having the radiator off makes it a lot easier.
A little behind here, this was actually over the past few weeks...
-Fabricated, painted and installed new soft top perpendicular bows from steel tube from McMaster-Carr.
-Removed and plated over old two pin slave receptacle (new NATO slave on battery box).
-Fabricated, painted and installed...
Saturday, 12MAY12 marked the 9th running of the George Barris Cruisin' Back to the '50's Car Show in Culver City, CA. This show has become hugely popular drawing more than 500 vehicles of all types and makes. The crowds seem to get bigger every year also. Held by the Culver City Exchange Club...
Have to agree with truck rental thing. Show up with a vintage military truck and the bureaucrats' feeble little minds go into a fault/protective mode and they self implode. I rented a Ryder 33Klbs, air brake equipped, 6 spd. manual stake bed to avoid being 1) disqualified and 2) getting any...
I briefly drove :driver:an M923A2 back in the NG. I love the air brakes. Wish I had the cash to convert my M818 to full A/B. Still partial to the M809-series. I like the manual shift, seat of the pants operation. And, YES, that power steering:drool::drool:[thumbzup]
