RT....Gringeltaube is the man. ALL good info and the last link is great. Notice the spring holds it to the normal position and is shifted by the linkage to the reverse position.
G...is the T1138 the same....except air shift? I don't see a neutral (at least a location intended to be neutral).
There are a lot of parts if you take the sprag tooo far apart to clean and inspect. I don't know if new ones are available, but I liked mine when it worked right. I think the sprag could come off with the TC on, but working overhead seems harder than taking the entire TC off to R&R it.
I...
I hope you are not talking about a manual switch for changing the sprag. Mine, I believe was hooked to the backup switch.
Some people claim there is a neutral in the sprag's positioning, but I didn't see that when I had mine apart.
Remove the front and rear driveshafts, then do above. Holding the clutch in doesn't make the tranny or TC turn.
I took the TC case out of my M817 and it's really not too bad if you are mechanically inclined. Getting to know the inside of that part is not a bad idea. Where are you in Indiana?
Frank, I have a grinder just like the one on the left (40 years)....a darn handy tool. I made pedestal and used 1 1/2" thick round as a base. I still have it, but it needs bearings. 8" x 1" is a good size. Those are some big sockets...good dumpster diggin' !
Are you sure you have an air shift TC or could that be the sprag cylinder that moves it from forward to reverse? I don't know about the deuce, although I expect it is near the same as the 809 series....the gearing inside the TC has different ratio of the front and back so the back is always...
I hope the BN has similar property to the nylon strap. The nylon strap sample I painted likes the Rustoleum camo rattle can paint and does not try to make a hard surface or be brittle. I think it will make a very good UV protectant too.
Ordered enough canvas for 2 layers of the black 12 oz (4...
The skills needed for these various covers are the same so a bit OT will benefit us all, Jbulach.
I ordered enough of the ballistic nylon (BN) that is light weight, but very strong, almost opposite to the idea that heavy canvas would be stronger, better insulating to sound and temp.
For...
I think someone made the news for starting a small paper fire to thaw the water under a diesel tank recently. It didn't work out too well for him. I use an electric space heater on the tractor, seems to work and not set it on fire.
I like it too and you got a good deal. It's got some goodies in very good condition like the fold down bed sides and the hard top. Do a bit of research on what to put over that gloss paint in 383 green flat and it will look just right. Try a spot with the Behr house paint sample size to the...
I used the Rustoleum flat (camo) oil based rattle-can on a seat and waterproofed over that. Without the waterproofing, it was like sandpaper....totally non skid. It looked and held up well, so I'm going to take my chances with the top. The dark forest is about a match for the 383 Green and...
Thanks BDGR, the cost of the ballistic black nylon in 1680D for the top layer was $59. I couldn't pass it up. I can easily make a 9x9 blank and have a 5" seam lap.
Plans on this project have changed to using ballistic nylon on the outer layer and a canvas inner layer with mat foam in...
Myself, I can't see how to get three positions with one air line and spring return (or why even have a neutral). Neutral in the TC is not in the sprag unit, it's in the TC gears. Why have a neutral that is redundant? I had my sprag out and don't recall a neutral, it either locks in one...
Now that the front is off, remove the back driveshaft and run it through the gears sitting still. My TC had shafts loose but this has a sound of the (3) shafts binding...aka too tight. Have you checked the lube in the TC (and tranny)?
I understand your problem. While you could keep rpm higher by using a lower gear in the tranny, you don't have a way of pulling power off at engine speed...like a front mounted pump coming from the crank.
Jeff Davis has given another option, changing them both to hydraulic or to PTO...
I don't mind heavy....with the cotton canvas anyway. In fact for sound and heat, it seems desired to me over lighter weight material.
I ordered samples of the canvas in untreated but died dark olive for the outside in #10 (15 oz) and #8 (18oz) canvas, then ordered sample of a cheaper black...
The sprag unit comes apart without taking the TC case out, I seem to recall. But first, I would take the cylinder apart and make sure the plunger is moving free. That air sound is changing from forward to reverse. Some people say the sprag has a neutral position in the middle, but I don't...
Bulldogger is in on the boot Frank, I'm just an interested bystander. He probably has more capability than I do with the Cordura or ballistic nylon. I have a big learning curve to overcome on the top with regular canvas.
Untreated canvas is now my material of choice. I'm finding that I can...
