What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Wes, are you saying to use the 9.00 on a five ton wrecker - rears and steer? Have you ever put an 11.00 on a combat rim for steer tire?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

AjaxMD, The bud style rims have a lot different offset than the combat SS wheels. It is several inches wider, center of tire to center of tire with the combat wheels Vs the bud wheel. Having not measured, I would guess center to center is 6-8" wider (overall) because of rim offset difference...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

AjaxMD.... both the way it steers and the flotation. The reversed bud wheels make the stance with the center of the tire narrower and the 11.00 is thin compared to the SS tires, giving less contact area. They make a rut really easy. A combat rim with SS puts the center further out + has about...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Can't answer the 16.00, seems Wes did. Here is an 813 with what I think are 395 Goodyears. Nice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NPk0ATb2SI

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I liked the stability of the duals on the M817 dump truck. I would have liked the super single up front, but the 365 or 14.5 does not fit the combat rim (metric VS industrial). 12.00 would be nice, like you say Wes. If I were not running a load a lot, the super single in 395 size on an 809...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Oops, I seem to have lost a reply post. AjaxMD, sorry but I wasn't clear on my model number. I have an M929A2 not an A0 with duals. The 395 is shorter than the 14.00 and not as heavy. I don't think they are 500#...sounds too high (maybe with run flats...no thanks). So my change is to a...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Its just a day delay getting to you. My state had 95% of it's 23m acres that were old growth hardwood forests, oak, maple and quite a bit of walnut. That area was reduced to under 15% in the 1920's and today is just above 20%. Now we have corn, bean, some wheat that grows annually with lots...

    M35A3 Headlight reposition

I got these at the surplus store for $2 each. They use a 2057 bulb that I can get an LED replacement for. I'm going to have to go get a few more. They are cast aluminum and have a nice gasket. Seeing the lens only in Grote for about $8, convinced me they are a good deal. Adding a reflector...

Project for a purpose and keep with the Mil spec theme

Did this with my bed, but not using the entire rear clip. I wanted it lower and have a place to put a dump scissor lift. Did you get a deuce 12' bed (mounted) or a 5 ton 14' bed that someone put on a deuce rear clip? Pulling with one ton...keep it light. How will you make brakes work ?

    M35A3 Headlight reposition

I cut the left side to fit tight against the cowling and have the turn signal on the outside. It was too cramped and didn't look right. I'm going back to the original plan of one housing mount that has both headlight and turn signal in it. Plus I'll make it go back and attach to the fender so...

    M35A3 Headlight reposition

I'm changing the headlight and turn signal lights on my A3 because the side engine panel hits the turn light. I was going to make an entirely new one that would have both inside, but I decided to adapt the ones that were on it. It requires moving them inward on the fender to mount the turn...

    Soft top from scratch

Here is a sample of the steel duckbill that will stick out in front and I believe on top of the door window. Strategic holes give places to zip tie it and pull it tight. Ill have a cable or rod put in the front and side.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Thanks T.....I just happen to have Ford in an F550 10 lug wheel (front and rear) and F450 8 lug (the wide bus width + sus and frame) and Chevy in 3500 size and all have disk brakes, complete. I am thinking 2WD.... a complete suspension change. The F550 ford, I have an entire frame ready to go...

809 hood, St Louis to Indiana

Is anyone coming my way with a PU or flatbed that could bring an 809 series hood from Saint Louis? I'm in North Indiana but could meet you at Indy or ?

    Patching a Vinyl Canvas Cover

Use HH-66 glue for vinyl and use "Tear Mender" or "Barge" for (untreated) canvas.

    Soft top from scratch

Today samples of canvas came and so did the ballistic nylon. I was not impressed with the canvas 10oz samples but it gave me some materials to plan the front folds with the steel overhang and screw locations. Enough for 2 layers of 12 oz cotton canvas is on it's way, thus I will have 2 inner...

    M35a2 6x6

Have you disconnected the linkage and manually tried to push/pull the engagement shaft? It's spring loaded and should return to home position (but not running you may have to help it a little). Don't get in too big of a hurry to take the sprag unit apart if you remove it....lots of small parts...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Actually no, I don't know. I play with 5 tons and deuce's and trailers... never had a HMMWV. Perhaps they are stronger in the rear than I thought.
