You're lucky they used bolt to put your holder on. They used those same fasteners like rivets on mine. I wanted it off and ended up torching them. Only one scar on the holder, but I wish it had had bolts.
Do you see the gear like shape of the piece on the left? That, I think, is the inner part of a friction clutch plate. Some of the disk may still be in place in the clutch, ready to do more damage. You have no choice but to pull.
Are you parked with the truck until it's repaired? Go ahead and take yours apart and see the condition of the components before you buy anything. I have to admit liking having a fully reconditioned and personally inspected NOS to go in it's place, but simply benching yours to re-seal seems a...
I thought I had 6 complete wheel cylinders from GL and after taking them apart, found issues. I know a NOS unit sounds like it's a ready to go unit (and the unit pictured does look nice), hopefully with seals that are not dried out from storage, but I'm not as trusting on brakes. So even if I...
"that ain't normal" .....nope.
On a recent thread I posted photo's of some wheel cylinders for the deuce that were part of a lot of 6 from Columbus GL. They were in Rockwell boxes and one has a number cast in and said Made in USA. It was odd and I began taking them apart.
I found 3 types...
Mine is an A3 work in progress 4x4 conversion. Photo is the bed becoming a trailer, truck frame L reinforcement, rear bumper on the A3 and the trailer suspension donor going on the frame outside when changed to one rear axle. I have new seats and new drivers door and whole lot of fabricating...
Hope you work this out Rusty. The 545 is a well regarded transmission but a 5-6 speed would be really nice. Good luck.
Don't forget to get one with the PTO ring if you want a tranny mounted PTO. From what I can tell, the PTO gear is optional on the 545 while all of the 1545 have them. The...
4X, your shop sounds like a farm I work at sometimes. They have maybe 10 grinders with grinding wheels and cut-off blades and not one of them has a guard. They have several 6" blades on a 4 1/2" grinders (that I'm not particularly fond of). Most have cords that have been repaired 2-4 times...
Yea 4X, I was asking about taking that flange off in an earlier post, but to be able to run my M35A3 wheels with dish out. Your idea of doing it for duals makes it so the axle (frame etc) is within the legal limit, not narrowed. Good job cleaning it up, it's a LOT of work. Obviously it's cast...
Sounds like the clutch pack piston seal is not holding pressure. On my M35A3 the frictions and steels got so hot they literally melted the piston that holds pressure against the steel/friction clutch pack of the 4th and reverse clutch. I suspect the operator kept thinking higher RPM was going...
The tranny problem is an inferior seal on the piston for the clutch pack(s). Maybe fluid will give you more life, but all of them (A3's) have the same seal problem. When the piston begins to leak around it, it won't hold pressure against the frictions and steels letting it slip. It probably...
Thanks for the explanation. From just the photo, the M51A2 WW looks like a desirable truck. It having a hard life and some repair/modification makes sense now.
I would surely bring the parts added to the 818 up to reconditioned standards, probably taking it all apart.
I do like the...
That's a perfect use and reason to not lower it. Lowering by taking that part of the frame out is a lot of work, even though he says easy. I'll bet I'm 14" lower with the 788 box on the (under-construction) under slung axle frame (compared to the modified 1101). PU will like that better.
I...
