The bed has a CG not too far off of the piece that slides out, but the typical wheel well on the truck is further back. I'll have more tongue weight if my axle is that far back, but behind the deuce, it could handle it. Empty, I want to move it with the pickup
I like that the sides and back...
Yea....there is no doubt that having someone else build a truck takes plenty of money but it sounded like the OP was willing to pay to avoid the risks that come with "projects".
Myself...it's the build that is the fun, but I understand why he would chose to pay reasonable markups for a truck...
If I had only one...it would be a 4x4 made from a 931. That one would be just fine. I'd gladly sacrifice the winch for a super clean truck and have someone else do the axle work and bed. Put a hard top on the wish list, maybe ditch the Goodyear AT-2 and go 16.00's.
You'll pay a premium for a 925 over a 923 or better yet an 931. I've bought 16 and sold 14.
Do you really need the winch? While I'm down to the last couple, I have a NOS PTO for adding hydraulics later.
At one Indianapolis sale C&C bought 60 trucks, many of them 931's, so I believe they...
I had some sign pole with multiple holes up and down it and made these up. Of course I don't recommend stealing state signs...but a local county highway would probably have a scrap piece.
Yes....they will hurt you if they come over with a load...no doubt.
I hope your going to re-spool up your cable in nice neat rows from left to right. Pulling like that makes them fray. It takes a lot of tension to do it right....can be 2-3 person job. I have a couple of frayed spots in my boomtruck winch cablee from pulling overlapped cables.
I just caught that....it's cool.
It gives me an idea for my A3 that is becoming a 4x4 and this Geithner box.
Funny, I never thought of mating them before.
You got a heck of a deal and if you can get it a bit lower...all the better. Great around the farm use for it. Myself, I would need more floatation and the outer duel.....
Do you have the rear leg? If not, be careful unhitching with a load on.
Yea, I just posted to give the new guys some ideas. When I found the forward and back page to post pictures, I found I had made a huge archive.
The most important part is getting use out of them. They are a great firewood hauler. Be careful going over center, a load can take the tongue up...
Here is one I put together from a 105 bed, dexter axle and HMMWV wheels. A guy bought it before I got it welded out or the dump cylinder on (he wanted to finish it) to haul firewood. It trails sweet and has hydraulic disk brakes.
It should be fine, the bed provides a lot of strength so that part of the frame should be okay. I guess it was GentrysGrarage that was talking about duals with those wheels. Did you remove the brake drum to fit the wheel?
You mean make it underslung, where the axle is on top of the spring, not under it??? I don't think there is room (will hit the frame), even when removing the overload springs.
Are you dualing them up? I'd be taking about half the spring pack out too.
I just got a couple bolster wheels and will see what they look like on the 105 axle (that has the duals). The bed will be the LMTV I have, I think.
Chris was just poking fun at the A3 model, Rusty.
I have a lot to do to it with tranny and pto and hard top and crane. I used the 395 tires I had for it on my 929, so have to sell something to get another set (5 not 7). Extra (5) A3 wheels are at tire shop to take apart so I can clean and...
Bringing this project to life again but going the more traditional route of M105A2 springs and mounts. I'll be ordering an L shaped steel plate piece for 8' of lap on the side of the frame and 5" below. Thus 13"x 3" x 8' of 1/4 plate. The M105 mounts attach to the side of the frame, not under...
