    M35A2 Chip Truck

I have a friend with a M928A2 that could be bought. Shortened to 16', it would be a huge (dumping) chip bed and no frame alterations (shortening just a bit). CDL for sure but a fleet of them could haul a LOT! That is the issue with the deuce... below most CDL requirement and not as large overall.

    M35A2 Chip Truck

The weak part of the M35A3 is the transmissions, but from a parts availability standpoint, not strength in service. It seems the OEM tranny, an Allison 1545 was only made for the A3 and it featured a locking torque converter mated to the very popular Allison 545. Since the entire run of A3's...

    M35A2 Chip Truck

Frank, Yea, great people! Notice the duals on the rear? If I were on hard pavement most of the time, I'd go to 11.00 duals and 365/80R20 fronts. They match very close on rev/mile. If he runs different size in the muck, it won't matter, but on 95% pavement, they should be close. Pucker up...

    M35A2 Chip Truck

Personally I think it's an excellent choice if you don't have to go on the interstate or highway that you would need to go over 50 mph. I sold one to the onion farm in NY and he uses a fleet of them very successfully. I like the 12' bed and the sides do not fold down, so are stronger than ones...

    S788 on m1101 +

That's what I'm thinking, that having it loaded will ride smoother. That same axle in a civilian version would be twice the rating it's tagged with. I found my front two frame pieces. They are 3x7"x1/4"x 10'. It's time to rescue them from the outside and use them. The top of the floor...

    S788 on m1101 +

There sure is a lot of variation in the Geithner S-788 and the M1101 & 2 ! Probably width is about the only dim the same, maybe height in the shelter. Are you going to use it for camping, etc? I'm going ahead with making mine longer and as much as possible, look similar to the ADAK that I...

    S788 on m1101 +

Here is a tandem using Dexter(s) (leaf spring) under construction to fit a deuce (dump) bed. Put a price on your axle.... someone may snatch it up. I'd love to but would have to trade/barter.

    S788 on m1101 +

I worked in mgt/engineering for a company that manufactured torsion axles in Ohio, I think mostly for AirStream. Learning how the rubber is nitrogen frozen and the axle assembly process was quite interesting. My job was moving a hub manufacturing business to the site from Tenn. I set up...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

    In parallel or series?

    S788 on m1101 +

Yes, adding one 4x4 to the front is probably okay but a second in the rear is getting heavy. The tongue weight gets high with one in front, as there would be no counter-balance. As for CG, the plan is to run two frame members just under, attached to the axle (bolted, not welded). The floor of...

    S788 on m1101 +

The trailer was battered on all for corners, mostly at the top and came with two flat un-usable tires. Gimpyrobb helped me out and got it here on his 101 tires on his way to Wisconsin a year back. What a friend! Got a great deal on it and had the tires on it now, here. Nearly all of the...

    S788 on m1101 +

Here is the Geithner s-788 shelter that I would like to mount on my modified M1101. I want to add a place for four wheeler or golf cart onto the trailer in front of the shelter. So a new frame will attach to the axle, and to the aluminum frame. Comments please.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I was having about the same problems you describe..low air pressure. The control valve is easy enough to remove and clean, and use some high tack red grease in areas prone to rust and water or movement. Now I put Marvel Mystery Oil in the line that feeds the unloader valve pressure control to...

2000 mile road trip in an FMTV

A friend has hauled for as little as $1 per mile, but fuel is up a bit. I can't pay to travel, stay, fuel and that ever looming breakdown tow for less than about $2. But never bought the newer SS, just 939 series and a couple deuces. 16 hauled. It's good that it's in a private persons hands...

5 ton axle bearings and seals part# x-reference?

Yep... Murphy's law...bought the bearings and seals then sold the truck. The real problem turned out to be the transfer case. I have a full rear set, bearings and seals, in classified.

Deuce Crash - Subway drive thru.

Later Air force and all of the A3's had a dual circuit system with two air boosters. I was reading about it and they say the MC is hard to come by and that instead of cups, uses an X-section EDPM o-ring (#2-222), and are worth rebuilding due to being rare. There probably are a lot of threads...

    M101a2... brake...slam...skid...slam...skid

Edit....I see mine from my 1101 is different from the above surge brake so the comment I made (below) is for the different style and may not apply. I've posted up some pictures of the surge brake for an M1101...
