Myself, I like the HEMTT rims but the normal rim for your axles is the combat rim. Given the project truck you posted, the weight of the run-flat will make a difference. Hope that is a V-8 flat-head.
Question....why didn't you get deuce axles?
Does Feltz have the 395 on the HEMTT rims? I know you can buy the combat rims from them (Marshfield), but are they selling the HEMTT rims that have the 11.25 BC?
Combats are relatively cheap (<$100), but if you can buy the HEMTT mounted at that price, go for it. I have that much just in the...
I doubt that it matters that the bevel is conical, not straight. These are for the Alcoa aluminum wheels, which have more of a ball and socket mating surface...but appear to do the job. Have you checked them for wear after using them a while?
I think I did that, Jbulach, but on the front. I bought a sheet of 10 ga diamond plate and have built it in a bit. I boxed the bottom in for extra strength and to have a small storage space. This should give a good place for the pump and I still have enough DP for a cover, if frugal.
Agree'd rusty, that's how I set up the bearings on my 817 transfer case, as much of a "feel" as anything. 200 foot pounds sounds rather hard crank on the bearings. Are you sure not inch pounds?
I couldn't have a weld trailer without a cutting torch. I use a 20# lp and lay the oxygen down for easy in-out. Cables and hose on mine are laid to pay out with just a tug. Also, what are you going to cover it with? I use an old water bed to give protection from the corners going through the...
Yes, that's my thought too. It will go clear to the outer frame. I left 24" for the accessories "box" (the part you refer to will be the bottom).
There is a heavy 5" "H" beam that is scarfed onto the tongue with lots of joint area to weld (a long lap joint). The 3/8" flange on that beam...
The axles are 7,000# each, so I'd say 12,000-14,000. Trailer will weigh about 5500#. The deuce bed fits inside the front frame and the frame corners get cut back to even with the front cross-member (about 1'), then a tongue reinforcement will go on the under-side to strengthen that part of the...
Here are a couple pics with the axles in place and the tongue from donor 105 fit to the frame. It's flush under for reinforcement. Before I get to the point of not being able to change the axle placement, does the weight distribution look too heavy on the tongue?
I had the steel tube on hand and had just enough to do it. The bottom tube is an od size 3 1/2" x1/4", has a but weld, but I got it welded straight . I wanted something substantial (3 x 10 x 1/4")...and of course that fit the axles right, while trying to keep the height down.
Making my deuce bed into a dump trailer to pull behind the M35A3 or M929A2. I have an M35A3 donor that I've once again decided to go 4x4 and use an M105 bed on it, making it a crew cab.... so I have a nice bed to start with and nothing wasted.
Here is one axle staged under the frame and next...
Chris, was it Doghead that was talking about mating the 939 and deuce cabs? Did anyone ever post up pics of doing CC that way? Do you know who might have a nice 939 series tub with good doors and windows?
I was just eyeing the A3 for leaving the rear axle in place fabbing air ride, keeping...
How many deuce crew cabs use a wider 939 series cab? Wonder how many are made from scratch?
I was convinced to use a "HET style" for a top, before thinking of crew cab. That style would allow to make a nice roll cage, then cover it. Maybe put a work platform or some fold up sideboards on...
I have an M35A3 that would be a good candidate and know some guys that did it to a 923 I sold them. With the second cab, which could come from a 939 series plus an M105 bed, it would make a sweet ride. Depending how much you want to do yourself, paint, finish, hydraulic accessories, the price...
