The center anchor is there as well. The TM shows the block for the center sheave having the hooks for a u-bolt as well even though there isn't one in the center of the bed. One of the blocks that we borrowed from Keith was attached to an anchor and didn't have the hooks (looked NOS all painted...
All rigged up:
Folding the gin poles out with the winch:
We folded them back in a little and reset the chains for more angle on the poles:
Lifting a poorly rigged trailer:
One pulley goes at the top of the gin poles, and one goes at the back of the bed just in front of the roller; the poles are then folded out over the back using the winch. They can also be set up off the side of the truck instead using adapters to fit them to the stake pockets and with a pulley...
Turns out the rear PTO linkage was broken; after swapping out that piece the rear winch works well. The winch cables both look to be in good shape so that will save a lot of cash.
Thanks Kenny! I actually know Keith, he's a friend of ours and he was a good friend of George's too. I haven't talked to him since last year so we'll to give him a call now that the truck is actually here. I took a bunch of measurements of the headache rack on his truck a few years back when...
Here's a few pics of the progress today, we took the sides off and took a look at the winches. The front winch seems to work good after removing and replacing a broken shear pin. The rear winch free spools out but it looks like the PTO linkage may be broken. We've got an entire spare PTO and...
This morning a 1970 m756a2 showed up at the yard. My friend George at Vermont Commercial Salvage bought this truck from DRMO back in the 1990s, he sold it a few years later but last year he bought it back. Rounder's Logistics handled getting it trucked it up from NC and now it's back at the...
If it's solid then it's a lot better choice than most other $700 trailers out there. If I were in the market for one I wouldn't feel too bad about paying $700 for a local one, I'm sure someone will say that's too much though. Around here it's usually a 100 mile minimum drive to buy surplus.
Welcome to the site.
That's an m101a1, likely built between 1962 and 1968. They are great trailers to tow, an axle swap with electric brakes would make it even better.
Just make sure the frame, hitch, and springs are in good shape, if you tow it home check the bearings to make sure they're not...
Thanks. The plow setup is a Fisher Speedcast from the mid to late 80s, I welded a few spots up and put some paint on it to slow down the rust. I'm only going to use it for the yard and another driveway or two so I'm trying to keep the cost low. The nice thing is I've already got a ton of CUCV...
We've done a little work on the m1028 plow truck lately. Replaced the main wiring harness, seat, dash cluster, shift indicator, steering column, heater controls, blower motor, and all the hoses for the plow. Also bolted the rear bumper on with more than 2 bolts and added some bed anchors for...
There's at least 4 different landing legs for m101/a1/a2/a3 trailers.
Is your trailer an original m101 from the early 1950's? If so the landing leg swivel will be separate from the leg itself which attaches with 2 bolts. The leg will look just like the one on an m416 but it's a couple...
I don't think it was mentioned in the thread, I was following it on the other site. I thought $3000 was a very fair price and I'm surprised no picked it up.
Yesterday my brother and I road tripped down to Pennsylvania to pick up the trailer. It's in decent shape, the jack is missing and the tailgate latches are broken but other than that not too bad. Since the tires had no air we changed it over to some little tires for the trip back.
It had a...
I bought it from GSA, it was down in Western Massachusetts.
It may not be until next year but it will be green eventually. I've already got all the parts it needs like new wiring, brake cable, lights, canvas cover, etc. so I've just got to do the work.
Thanks for the pictures!
It looks like that one may be an earlier build, since the one I've got has the m-series taillights and clearance lights as well as the tie downs that are more like the ones on the production m1101s.
Last week I picked up this m416 to tow around with my m151a2. I bought a few 1/4 ton trailers earlier this year but sold them all a month before I bought the jeep so I've been looking for one I could restore back to original since then. This one's in pretty good shape, it has the typical...
