Sorry, I don't have any info on that pic, it's just one I saved a while ago while looking for "period correct" vehicle mods.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Ok here is some info and some basic measurements that should help someone install one of these cranes on a CUCV. Materials list 1. 12' of 2x3 square tube. I went with 1/4" thick because it was only a few bucks more than 3/16". I decided to extend the supports to the other corner of the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Yeah I agree it looks a little out of place, I'm planning on painting the whole truck next year, crane included. It rained all day here today, I can tell you that the tubing is 2 x 3 x 1/4 inch and each support is 70" long. It should be nice enough out tomorrow to take the rest of the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

It swiveled fine, the only downside was I had to hold the handle for the winch to keep it from dropping. Of course the turbo 400 / np208 combo only weighs around 200 pounds I think. The electric winch has a brake so it should fix that problem. I'll try to get the measurements on the support...

    Canadian "Pre-CUCV" Chevy

Thanks for the info Frank. Could you get me some pictures of the cages on the 5/4s, and how they mount, etc.? It would be much appreciated. The cage in the photo is mine, it looks like it would be about perfect on a 3/4 ton trailer, maybe a bit short for a pickup bed (not by much though).

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I recently got a 3500lb winch from tractor supply, and after drilling two holes it bolts right up to the bed crane on the m1028. I only used the original hand crank winch to pick up a th400/np208, didn't care for it. The new winch was only $75. I still need to run some wiring to the back of...

    Canadian "Pre-CUCV" Chevy

Does anyone know for certain the gear ratio, and if there is a locker in the rear axle on these trucks? I've got 2 of them, but they are in a trailer in crates so it would be difficult to check without removing them from the trailer, and then the crates. Also, has anyone ever seen one with a...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I'll take some measurements and such of the crane mod for those who are interested. The square tubing is 1/4"x2"x3". Yesterday I picked up this USMC m1008. It looks like it was once a Massachusetts state police truck, then it was used by Mass forestry for parts. The cab and frame are...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Lately I've finished installing all new stainless brake lines, new calipers and pads, got the cab corners done, the fuel tank installed, and I got the bed back on. The crane support works exactly like I hoped it would; I've got to drill some holes and get some bolts and it should be good to go...
