That makes sense, my pickup truck has a hole drilled in the latch. I recently noticed a note in a 1980's PS magazine saying to run a chain from the hood latch down to the bumper to prevent theft of batteries.
Built a holder for the spare tire on the m1028 using an extra troop seat leg and a homemade spinner setup from an m37 that came with a lot of CUCV parts I bought at a show. I cut the troop seat leg down and welded a right hand m37/m series lug nut to it.

The extra bracing is welded on all the ones I've seen. Having the NOS fender with the spots marked does make it easier to line up where the trays go. The fit on the truck was excellent as well.

I picked up an m116a1 Pioneer tool trailer and an m116a3 genset trailer last week from SS members.
The speed is so low because the military said so. The m101a2 is designed for the CUCV series trucks, which have a max speed of 55, which was also the national speed limit at the time. Highway speeds are no problem for an a2 or a3 trailer. I'd wager the 55 mph limit on some uhaul trailers...
