I've been working on getting the new deuce ready for paint the past couple days. Finally noticed that the spare tire is on an m34/m135 style wheel, and changed out the driver's side front tire. Had to use the poor man's "geared lug wrench" (2x the power!)
Check out this thread:http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?70490-M54A1-Mack-manufacturer-info-needed. There is a very good chance your truck was used in the Vietnam War.
Picked up the deuce today! Took the m931a2 in case there were any problems but it ran great for the 40 mile trip. It has the early Schwitzer 3ld-305 turbo, the engine is a 1973 LDT-465-1C.
Great show, I'll be attending, probably with the CUCV II. I've got a complete temper tent as well as a bunch of parts (floors, vestibules, flys, etc., no frames). I can also bring anything else I've got listed here on SS(9x13 Pulsetech solar chargers, deuce passenger seat covers, stencils...
That's the original style drain plug. The correct tool is a 1/2" by 2.5" long piece of square stock. If you use a 1/2 drive socket (with rounded edges) you will strip it.
Thanks, I know where a couple sides are nearby. The previous owner can't remember if he has the sides or not, maybe he'll find them when the snow melts.
It will tow fine empty, you'll know its there though. It will be nose down if your truck is close to stock. You can rotate the lunette down (if it isn't already) to get it closer to level(not something I'd worry about for the initial recovery though).
Drove the CUCV II and blazer out of the backyard before the ice starts to melt and it turns to mud. Pulled the passenger side inner fender on the blazer and removed the battery bracing. I've got an NOS replacement, it doesn't have the bracing but it is punched where the battery tray bolts go...
The old school glitter/metalflake ones were made by Roadway (other companies made similar ones too). My brother has one in his m37.
Caterpillar control knobs are similarly shaped, and I've seen pictures of them on trucks in the Vietnam war.
I've trailered a couple of vehicles with my m1028. Is it the preferred truck for towing cars? Definitely not. Will it do it? Yes, but I wouldn't take it on the highway, or anywhere there is a decent amount of hills. I used my 1028 to tow a blazer a couple hundred miles from upstate NY (55mph...
It lists the part number for the injectors as 40-3055201. I wouldn't know if they are the same or not as on the 4 cylinder model. Here is some more info:
