I think the padding in a CVC is more beneficial than the shell, although the shell is nice when you whack your head coming out of the hatch. I generally always wear a hat and while it isn't that protective for an accident it helps when you walk into the corner of an open LMTV door.
The original intention was to leave the 3rd seat out of the LMTV since I was 1 back rest short of a full set and instead maybe put a gunner's platform with some type of cooler/armrest combination in it's place. While piecing the seat together to use for trading material the wife said (I...
Another minor fix today. The seat adjuster for the driver's seat was broken. It appears that's a fairly common occurrence and the replacement adjuster that I was able to get had also been broken but fixed with an upgrade. Unfortunately when they did the repair on the replacement they used...
Another minor set back on the AC install. The hose kit that was supposed to be for a LMTV was about 6' too long and the fittings for the compressor side were too short to go over the unit so wouldn't be in the correct position. Instead of trying to find the exact part - since we can't seem to...
I've been having some issues with the cab latch actually latching so today Keith_J pulled it off and stripped it down to see what the issue was. First off the button was sticking some so cleaned the shaft off and lubed it up some. Then the o-ring was getting kind of stiff so we swapped that for...
Got a little bit further on the AC. Keith_J came by and started on the mounting points for the condenser brackets. The bottom brackets just needed a hole drilled in the frame horn extensions but the upper ones needed a little bit more material added. Luckily we had some left over Goat...
I encourage anyone who hasn't voted in the Vehicle of the Month polling to do so and vote for Shark Bait. We need a LMTV represented!

No offense to M939 series vehicles but isn't it about time a LMTV won? CUCVs and M923s are getting kind of boring (sorry, mea culpa, pardon, no offense to owners of these vehicles. I've had them myself).
That's generally the idea. They don't do it gently and once they've hit a drive shaft it's usually toast. And often when they take out a drive shaft they take out (at least on CUCVs and deuces) the transfer case as well - had a couple of those. So stay away from trucks that show any dents in...
It's not just for NBC gear it's also for the soldier's personal stuff. It could have been a platoon leader's vehicle and he wanted extra space for his delicates or who knows what. Since they didn't put the radio's behind the passenger seat then they didn't need the hanging bag. Unit level...
That is storage for the co-driver in a truck with a radio mount. They remove the box (like behind the driver's seat) and install the radio racks. Now the co-driver needs a place for his stuff so they have the hanging box. You can try having both but it makes opening the metal box kind of tough.
Another minor fix - when NDT picked the truck up the brakes were caged. As such the dust covers had been removed and apparently didn't make it into the truck anywhere. I was able to get some replacements from my favorite parts scrounger and put them on today. I decided the blue didn't really go...
