One of the things I forgot to mention when I was replacing the door handles is the bolts holding the latch on were all stripped. For some reason the manufacturer thought slotted heads were the way to go. I replaced them with allen head bolts.
As much as I didn't want to spend the money I broke down and changed out the right air bag (saying "I" did means I watched while a friend did it - had a tooth yanked today and was drifting a little on left over dentist drugs and the additional shot of Tylenol 3). No more leaks, at least from...
Beautiful pics as always. I do get homesick for the NW. The missus and I were camping in the Olympics Jul 4 weekend 1996. We drove in to town to watch the original Independence Day and then back to our tent. Good times and 20 hard years ago.
While I haven't been through England my couple of trips to Ireland taught me to eat at the pubs (I don't drink either). Better food and more reasonably priced than a full service restaurant.
I can't be there but post time and place. I have a friend in London and I'll convince him he needs to go.
And congrats on the help. It's always nice to have an extra hand around. Make sure they get a nice lunch at the pub if nothing else.
Bill, unfortunately I fly back to ID instead of driving. I would have loved to stop by but it's a bit of a haul from Moscow down to Boise on a few days vacation visit. Maybe when I finally move back in 10, 12, 15 years or so.
We had a pretty good parts circle going until I blew it and sold mine. I actually just moved the engine block out of the shop for the scrap guy to pick up tomorrow.
I bought a non-runner out of Ft Polk. Only serious issue was the transmission ECU. Once that was replaced everything else was pretty much cosmetic. It appears that once the ECU went out they started using it as a parts truck and stole a piece here and there but all minor fixes.
Understand. I was just trying to cut your quote down to the essence of "not original" and may have deleted too much of it. Like I said, I think any of the handles will last as long as the trucks do for "hobbyists" like myself that opens the doors on the weekend. If someone is using the trucks...
In that case these are the original style. As my truck is used for living history events and such I prefer what was original. My truck is not going to get the use or abuse that an active military vehicle would so I'm betting my handles will last as long as I do.
Mine closes like a new car door now with the new handles. Of course it closed fairly easily before but now not so much slamming the door as simply closing it.
So here's a couple of pics with the belt on. The one we used is 56" long. We had to stack several washers behind the idler pulley to get it to line up with the crank pulley and the compressor but everything looks good.
