I'm new to this site so this is the first I've seen this thread. I've gotten ah lot of really good info from your restoration keep up the good work, and the post:beer:
Without getting overly technical, (Ackerman angle) has to do with the angle (for & aft) of the top of the spindle +steering arm length vs tie rod + suspension travel. So basically as you turn your wheels ,and the suspension travels up and down the geometry of your steering changes. Thus making...
I think what he is referring to is what's called the (Ackerman angle). And yes, solid axle trucks would have strange turning issues where one tire (Usually the inside tire) turns more then the other due to the tie rod design. However your extreme caster/camber issue suggests something's way out...
If there's frame damage or bent suspension components, at best an alignment would only mask the problem. Assuming they could even get it TO align. The truck would run down the road like ah crab and do some weird things when you changed lanes, AND still wear out the tires. It should only take ah...
The sway bar serves no structural purpose so no. However it could be ah good indicator as to your problem. As Recovery said about the leaf spring center pin. Or someone could have hit ah tree stump or curb really good and simply bent something like the leaf spring itself. I would take some...
In the next few days I'll be replacing the front calipers + pads, rear wheel cylinders + shoes, and all flex lines. Last week I replaced all the power steering/hydroboost lines and degreased and cleaned the entire area. I've noticed the area where the hydroboost and the master meet has stayed...
Whenever I start the truck the volt gauge needle is stuck at the bottom and I have to tap it to get it to release. Aside from that it works perfectly. Is there some sort of lube or cleaner I can spray into the back of it. Or can I repair easily, or should I just buy ah new one?
I've noticed that some 84-86 Chevy trucks & CUCV's have drip rails and some don't? Is there some practical reason? Were the drip rails bolt on or welded on? My M1028 doesn't have them and I think it looks, well cooler this way. I was just querious ..
Okay I see it now, I just didn't read down far enough. Still ah little techie to read with all the little codes and such. Thanks Warthog, I guess I'll ask you next time sense it only takes you 10 seconds:beer:.
Okay so I finally found the right TM (Those things are ah PITA to read) anyway I found ah part number in the TM for the shoes (372379) ,which cross references to AcDelco part number (17452R) which fits the 13"X 3-1/2" drums. But nothing for the wheel cylinders. They aren't mentioned at all in...
I've bin searching the web for rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders for my M1028 and there seems to be several different part numbers for both. AC Delco lists 2 part numbers for the shoes and 4 part numbers for the wheel cylinders. Apparently there's 2 different drum sizes. I would assume the...
Hey guy's I've gone over the sticky's and didn't find an answer for this one. Before I found this site I saw ah video on you tube on how to do the dog head relay mod. In the video the kid used part (Oregon#33-431). So I ordered one off the interweb and when I got it had 12V stamped on the side...
I'm at the point where I need to replace the shocks + steering stabilizer. There seems to be quite ah few after market versions of these. The intent is to use this truck as a daily driver. What would be the best steering stabilizer for this. Thanks
IT'S FIXED!!!! I got my solenoid today and it works perfectly. Thank you guy's sooo much. I've bin fighting this thing for 2 months. It's ah huge relief to finally have this thing running wright. Now I just need to figure out the 12V feed thing for this.
It's powered from the "Big black resister". The solenoid that's on there now seems to be an after market unit. The black plastic ones that look like ford starter solenoids. The new one looks to be a smaller metal unit. which I assume is the factory style one?.. Here's the one I ordered (deleted...
So I did the jumper wire thing you told me about this morning and it started INSANTLY!!:naner: So I guess now we know it's something to do with the GP controls. I should get my new solenoid in the mail Wed or Thurs so I'll install it and go from there...If it turns out to be the GP card, where...
