Not overloading a generator with an ATS is not a guideline. If you use an ATS you MUST have AUTOMATIC load shedding as to not create an overload on the generator. If you do and its a permitted job its a guaranteed fail from the inspector.
If you have a MTS then it is assumed that the load...
+1 on the test and test concept. I had a MEP831 that ran OK but not great when I got it. I tweaked the speed controller setup and got it dialed in.. I'm thinking GREAT! And it was great for an hour. After an hour or so the speed controller freaked out. Cool it down and it runs perfectly again...
Be sure to read up on the code for generators in your area. If you are using an ATS the rules are different concerning connected load. You aren't allowed to automatically attach more connected load than your generator can handle. If you have a 5kw genset then you can't put more than 5kw of...
Does it run OK other than smoke? Be sure to carefully check the oil level and make sure its not overfilled.
If you are sure its not overfilled and the oil is OK I would run it more. Place as much load on it as you can and see if the smoking gets worse or better. It should be able to carry...
There is a knob on the side of the engine that you turn then move to the "shutdown" position. All you would have to do is adjust the mechanical governor so that when the knob was all the way up (run) it would be about 3650 rpm and when you want to shut it down you would just push the knob down...
I use those batteries to test generators. If its an easy starting set they will work fine. Buy a pair and $20 worth of battery cables and you'll be in business.
I would recommend running the dog-crap out of the generator for a while. Get it up to 50% and above for periods of time. Then see if it still smokes (blue). I've had several that did that when warming up but not when hot. Running them hard for a while cleared up the issue completely in every...
Something like this would work. You may need to buy a couple of them to have enough current for everything. You can put one in for the instruments and one for battery charging...
There is a 24v regulator that looks like the ballast from a florescent light.
Grab the TM and troubleshoot that part. Make sure you have input power to the regulator.
Yea, that would be me. I've earned plenty of experience with the speed controllers on those. They are problematic.
Does the speed controller otherwise work OK? Does the engine speed go up and down like its supposed to as the load changes? If it does that OK it could be a simple adjustment. If...
Those are not unreasonable for tested and working units. You could pay more for total unknowns at auctions these days. The prices have spiraled up to insane levels.
