    M35 prepping for paint

Same boat here, but I'm going to hit the bare metal with filler first, then primer. That seems to be what all the cool kids are doing on the Spike TV powerblock shows.

    Sprag pop rolling backwards.

Note, the 1965 TM says the "wind-up" tension creates harder transmission shifting conditions, which may be relieved by coasting in neutral. There is no warning of breakage, which leaves me wondering how many sprag failures are due to adjustment issues vs broken metal?

Deuce a Casuality in Bangkok street fighting

Here's a company in North Bangkok that remanufactures M35A2s, Mutts, and halftracks. Chaiseri Metal & Rubber Co Maybe a good source for parts when the unrest settles down?

ball park cost to haul trucks

Bad timing. I had Eric from Hotshot Transportation up hey'ah in January. I paid $1.416/mile. Eric's home base is Jacksonville, NC and has a winch. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/transportation-needs/41668-hotshot-transportation-co-new-truck.html

    My shop van runs rough

When I got my 109 in Jan from GL I drained the 35 gallons or so from the tank and poured it into my home-heating-oil tank. The deuce then got 30 gallons of ultra-clean diesel and 15 gallons of biodiesel when the weather warmed up, and a little WMO got mixed in their too. She runs real nice and...

    Maine Rally 2010

Just wondering if you guys had any New England sources for new 9.00x20 NDTs? I'd like to swap out a couple questionable tires before traveling too far with the 109.

How do I remove a M109 Van Body?

Quickest and dirtiest method I hear is to unbolt it, stake down the box, put it in gear and let it drop.

    M35A2s in Vietnam? what year?

In the video above, at 0:48, any reason to believe that's not a M35A2?

    M35A2s in Vietnam? what year?

Kaiser Jeep data plates may hold a clue, those show the original model year and number. If my Kaiser Jeep data plate is an indicator, 465s came off the line at least as early as 1966. According to David Doyle in another post, the M109A2s had 427s, the A3s had 465s. My Kaiser Jeep data plate...

    Deuce Engine run away

Could the hand throttle have been pulled out a couple notches, ie for cold weather starting 3 months ago? That with the pedal feathering would give you that run-away sensation. Ask me how I know.

Location of Tranny & Xfercase vents?

I was in there replacing a speedometer cable this weekend so I checked mine as well. Here's some pics.

Putting yr deuce in a trk pull

Looks like that video was removed. Here's a 109 doing well: No mention of extra weight, but the heavier box may be helping. Tires 35psi and Low 2nd gear. Maybe the extra weight of the winch over the front axle as well?

    GI gas can help---5 gallon

I don't bother with the spouts anymore, I use one of those "safety-syphon" hoses with a foot valve. Might take a little longer, but you don't have to lift/hold the can and it allows you to walk away and do something else. I recently saw them for sale at the local NAPA. Add: It also works to...

AZ: Deuce Shop Van RV Tow Rig

I love the look of the old shop van. Was the ladder behind the passenger side door original equipment or a mod? Beautiful shape, I'm jealous of how well vehicles are preserved for you guys in dry climates.

Westfolk's Steel Oil Spin On Adapters

The article in the thread below mentions some of the early design work and testing. No oil pressure info, but the oil gallery design is important for multifuel use. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/45646-1963-popular-mechanics-article.html

    Russian UAZ 469 ??s

I remember reading an article about one of these coming into Maine from Canada years ago. A local mechanic was quoted saying "it has a **** of a heater, but not much else."

    Maine Rally 2010

I took the 66' (85' rebuilt) Kaiser 109 for a shakedown run tonight, finally got all the new brake lines and fittings to stop leaking. So far so good, getting the hang of driving it. If things continue to go well I can see myself making the 2.8hr Journey at 45mph.... I should get working on...
