Its a 3600rpm air cooled engine. You could certainly get more than 2500hrs out of it running it like that. When engine work is needed the parts are readily available and reasonably priced. The main problem I've found with them is the speed controller fails and that is a part that isn't...
Oh, the oil change interval I use is 100hrs. It holds about 1qt of oil. Check the valves every 500hrs. Replace the fuel injector about 1500hrs. The engine should be good for about 2500hrs.
The 831 will do about 3.5kw continuously. Maybe a little more for short times. They are a much different beast than the normal generators. They have a high frequency alternator supplying power to an inverter. They burn from about 0.2gph to about 0.5ghp from light to full load.
There is room...
A MEP003a is a 10kw generator and I suspect much larger than you are interested in.
How much space do you have for a generator?
Most of them can be setup to do a remote start. They are 24v starting and control systems. Changing one over to 12v is possible but a major deal. I wouldn't...
They are pretty easy to find but a little pricy. They are very easy to rebuild. I've rebuilt them and the parts are cheap. Unless it's catastrophic damage like windings burned I would rebuild it instead. You can do that for around $50 even if you replace the bearings and everything.
Keep an eye on the rubber bits especially if you run home made bio. It usually has higher levels of residual methanol. That stuff can be hard on rubber.
I don't think so. I think they were taking it apart to get the tank out. Its missing most of the screws in the cover on that end. If I was a betting man I would put money that the tank has a leak. That seems to be a recurring theme with these. Its missing the filling neck and cover for the tank...
Yea, I wasn't able to go down and see it ahead. Kinda taking a chance with it using the photos. I did check out the next round on the block while I was there.
It looks OK. A few parts missing. Nothing that can't be fixed.
I'm heading down to Ft. Bragg this morning to pick up a MEP802 from the recent auction. Wish me luck. This one is for my brother. I hope I've picked him out a good one for him.
I agree with Mike.
If you do a search for AMMPS generators you'll see a new series of generators that are more fuel efficient than than current MEP models. I've read a few documents that indicate that the forces are transitioning over to these new generators as part of a mandate to reduce fuel...
I suspect you will find the problem in the exciter circuit and the lower probability is a bad contact on the power side. If you had enough resistance in a contact to drop the voltage to 80 something it would catch fire pretty quickly.
I agree that concentrating on the exciter circuit is where...
I'm not looking to prove anything. I just added my experience with personal equipment to the mix. I lived for one and a half years off grid not by choice but due to a stupid law here that prevents people from residing in RVs so I couldn't get power to my home site under construction because my...
I have a EU1000 with more than 2000hrs on it. It ran at least 8hrs every day for more than a year and a half. I changed the oil every few weeks. It still starts on the first pull.
I'd call that pretty robust. ;)
Its smoothed out a good bit after I ran it for a while. I learned after looking at a bunch of them that they do shake more than the 4cyl machines.
It went to its new home in South Carolina a couple of months ago and the new owner is very happy with it.
Since you have a 3 wire feeder to your sub panel in the barn things will be a little more complicated. The code changed in the 2014 edition.
Per the 2014 edition of the code you should bond the neutral and ground buss in the sub panel as long as there are no other possible ground paths back to...
Grounding can be really confusing. The basic thing to remember is this, you can have many (properly installed) grounds in a distribution system but the neutral and ground should be BONDED (electrically connected) in only one location. Ideally you would connect all ground rods together in a...
