You can also use biodiesel as an additive. A gallon of B100 will treat 64 gallons of diesel. Even at 1% it will increase lubricity of the fuel. Under 2% there isn't an issue with it damaging older rubber components. I add 2oz/gal to my pump fuel which comes out to about 1.5%. Its a cost...
Yep. I replaced the diodes and all was good.
This is the alternator I had on my unit - http://www.prestolite.com/pgs_products/specs.php?item_detail_id=19373&item=8MR3005CA&product=ALTERNATOR
The Prestolite part numbers for the rectifiers are:
0180000G98S $13.76 (includes diode trio)...
For a generator that size you should be able to make your own power cable with some Type W cord.

The normal battery to fit the 802 and 803 is Group 51. The standard battery for the 002 and 003 is 6TL.
I've been using lawnmower batteries for the 802s and they work fine and are super cheap. I've not found one with the normal battery posts yet.
Which batteries are you using and did you have to change the battery cable connectors? I've not seen any of the small tractor batteries with conventional posts. They are all bolt-through posts.
The ones I recently bought have a tier2 reset tag on the outside and a sticker on the right side of the engine indicating it was rebuilt. You could clearly see they had not been run much. They were very clean with new wiring harnesses. I feel that I got very lucky.
The best answer is.. It depends..
It depends on the length and how unbalanced the load is in your house. My main fear with home backup generators is how many 120v loads are there which increases neutral current. Most cables have neutrals the same size as the load conductors and some have...
That will work.
I'm using water heater elements in a bucket of water. I run the garden hose into the bucket to keep the water temp under control. Works great and the total cost was under $50.
For my MEP003a that backs up my home I do the monthly test. I switch over to generator power then...
+1 on running it hard for a while. I bought a few 802s that were tier2 resets. Every one of them smoked after they warmed up with light load. I thought i had bought a bunch of problems but i figured that i would put the spurs to them and fix what broke. After a few minutes of pretty heavy smoke...
If I was going to sell a used one it would be in the $50 range. In my opinion their prices tend to be on the higher side but not so high to be gouging.
Is this what you need?

Modern heatpumps/AC units have timers on them to protect the compressors from short cycling due to power blips. You shouldn't have to worry about the AC unit starting up immediately upon power up. The fan may start quickly but the compressor shouldn't. I have a MEP003 for backup at my house and...
I personally would avoid high pressure washing if you can. Try using a good detergent or solvent first. You can get a few small brushes like you clean bottles out with to get between the fins and other small places. I find that works even better than pressure washers. Leaves a lot more paint...
Do you foresee any issues with the efficiency of the CVT in the system? Its going to cost you about 15% in engine output versus about 1-3% with a single speed toothed belt.
I've learned that hour meters aren't a good indication of anything. They get swapped around. Its best to use your own inspection to determine if its in a condition you find useful.
Never trust the hour meter.
+1 on the grounding. In addition code requires a GFCI outlet or an approved inline GFCI cord to use a generator stand alone. I had to update the convenience outlet on my MEP-003 to GFCI.
