    MEP-831a Troubleshooting

Thanks for checking on that. Here are the components I ordered. The pins were the ones that were flagged to go with the connector. Bulkhead connector - AMP 206151-1 http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en/connectors-interconnects/circular-connectors-housings/1442557?k=A1307-ND Pins - AMP...

Trailer mounting MEP-831 and MEP-003 together

I know that is how they do it with a pair of the smaller units. I don't want to do that with the 003 for the exact reason you mention. I'm going to take some measurement and do a bit of calculation to see if its reasonable.

    MEP-831a Troubleshooting

The wire was broken off the back of the pin so I have to replace it for sure. I ordered the extraction tool and the connector. A bit of arcing happened and did some damage to the connector. I don't think I'll be able to get that pin out so it looks like I'll be taking the other 36 out and moving...

Trailer mounting MEP-831 and MEP-003 together

Has anyone mounted both a MEP-831 and MEP-003 on a M116A2? Having both on there plus the electric cable and breakout box should still be under the GVWR of 3160lbs.

MEP 831 FAQ for owners or potential buyers

Yea, I figured out about the oil today when I was filling it up. I had bought a gallon jug of only put in a quart.

    MEP-831a Troubleshooting

It looks like that one on ebay is the one that goes around the engine. I would need to replace the one in the control panel (if I can't fix the connector).

    MEP-831a Troubleshooting

I picked up the generator from GL at Fort Bragg today. Physically it looks to be in great shape. All the parts were there. I put a splash of fuel in it and filled the crankcase with oil. It has great compression. The battery was totally flat. I decided to do a "manual" start so I put some fuel...

    Opinions on MEP-831A

Well, looks like I won the one I was bidding on. With some luck I should have something to tinker on soon.

Picked up 6 MEP-802A gensets and will be documenting making them all runners here

That is one sharp inlaw suite. Nice job.

Well, I put in a bid for one that by the images looks to be unadulterated. Crossing my fingers.

    Meter interchangeability MEP-004A, MEP-005A,MEP- 006A

I've seen sensitive gauges bounce around when there was a grounding or EMI issue. You may want to go though and be doubly sure of your grounds or other potential loose/corroded connections are clean and solid.

I hope to find one of these for sale near me. It would be perfect for running the house during times of light demand.

    New guy with MEP-002A questions

You don't have to do anything special. Synthetic oil is perfectly compatible with regular oil. In fact on my Camaro I would occasionally add a little regular oil to it when it started leaking. The front crank seal hated straight synthetic oil and would leak after a while. Adding 1/2qt of...

Article seems to suggest the MEP 802/803 line leaves a lot to be desired.

On the flip side it will be nice to see some of the larger variable speed units come onto the secondary market in a few years. The Honda inverter based generators I have do a great job and I've put several thousand hours on one of them and its still kicking. All on the original spark plug. I...

Question regarding EMP proof ability of mep-002a/xxxa type gensets please.

The older MEP-002a/003a should survive a CME event fine. That is not the same as a EMP. A CME event will target long conductors and induce currents over an extended period of time. An EMP is designed to target electronics with a very short but very intense burst. On the CME front the...

    MEP-003a - Temporary Voltage Fluctuation

A bit of an update. I've not been able to get out and test it over the last few days. I just ran it with the VM attached to the output of the VR board and I did see a little fluctuation that was tracked by the voltage gauge on the panel. The fluctuations were small and in less then a minute it...
