    Gamma Goat wheel hub Maintaince

Mike, That's the -20-1 and it does work but is pretty much just PMCS and the LO. The other volumes have more of the maintenance guidelines we've been looking for. I have a complete set ordered and hopefully can upload the others when they arrive.

San Antonio, TX Monthly MV get together!!

Not going to be able to make it. I'm helping another member pick up a 715 in the morning. Should have the Gama Goat ready to bring out in March but it'll probably still be mostly yellow. Maybe I can park with the Mustang Club.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Full day on the 561 today. We got the rest of the backing plates off, removed all the gunk from the wheel cylinders and got them honed and reinstalled with Keith_J handling the spring action (ticks me off that he makes it look so easy). But the problem came when we went to flush the lines...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Well there was the original OD green, Marine Corp green, Merdoc, and then I think the Forest Service house paint yellow applied with a brush counts as 2 coats so I'm maxed out until I take some of that back down. That latex yellow is freaking thick too. I'm burning up 80 grit like tissue paper...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Tried that too. First one went on easy but could not get the 2nd one. If I had some way to secure the assy while doing it I might have succeeded but trying to hold it down and stretch the spring at the same time was beyond me. This is an instance where having the backing plate mounted would have...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Thats what I was trying to use. Figured the stamp was likely something like "right rear stake pocket" or similarly important.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Well I got most of a 3rd wheel brake job done but after 2 hours of trying to get the last shoe spring on I cried "uncle" and left it in the back of the carrier for tomorrow. There was some more schmutz in this one and the wheel cylinder was locked up but not as bad as the others and it came...

Military now doing criminal back ground checks to get on posts.

What's ironic is Ft Lewis was doing that back in the '80s. Not sure when they stopped but at that time if you didn't have a DoD sticker, even with ID, you had to go through the Welcome Center and get a pass for your vehicle. Doubt they did any kind of check other than your registration and...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Both WCs were stuck. Luckily a wooden dowel took care of that. The MC had some Dot3 in it but looked pretty clean otherwise.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

I had invited Keith_J to lunch just to unwind from the work yesterday, this morning, and my many bruises (including ego) from working on this. I had some nice pizza while Keith had a disgusting burger with Bleu cheese on it and we got to discussing the brakes. He decided it was best he come...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Got the left front brake drum off this morning. For those attempting this the Jack Bolts are 5/16 Fine Thread and there are 4 spots around the drum. Once you have the drum off I would suggest you immediatly back the Jack Bolts out of the opening. If you try to set the drum back and these are...

As promised, Pics of my Gama Goat that I made a trade of $800.00 in goods for.

I've been told many times over the last month how deranged I was for wanting one. The standard line is "10 hours work for 1 hour of driving." The thing is, I'm fine with that. As long as I can do the work I'm cool with it. Now of course I've put more than 10 hours into mine already and only...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

I don't know anything about drywall work but I can run a roller if you need help priming/painting. I got the info for removing the brake drums from another thread that DH directed me to. The issue I was running into today was that I couldn't identify the Jack Bolt holes. Once I got a look at...

    Gamma Goat wheel hub Maintaince

Everything works except the -20. I've been using the -20P for most things just to see how things go together.

    Gamma Goat wheel hub Maintaince

Ok one of the problems I had were that all of the jack bolt holes were filled with NC red mud so they didn't even show up until I knew what to look for from posts in this thread (thanks again). I'll get those cleaned out tomorrow and try and get things backed out. I'll take detail photos...

    Gamma Goat wheel hub Maintaince

I actually found that last night while surfing around for brake info. Glad there are folks out there willing to share their experience. Hopefully what I wind up doing will help someone else down the road.

Sounds like the time I scoped myself with a 300 Win Mag. Looked like I had half a golfball over my right eye.

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Well the first hub I started working on (not off yet) had about a pint of chocolate syrup in it. I know I read about oil in the hubs in one of the many Goat threads but don't recall which one so it's on to 'search' or just re-reading everything. I may actually hold off on the brakes until the...

Working On The M561 Gama Goat

Ever say you're going to get something done even if it kills you? Well I think the WH Express is trying to commit manslaughter. I already took a header out of the carrier that cost me a silver dollar sized piece of skin off my knee then today I got my feet wrapped up in the vac cord and did a...

You're just full of cheerful possibilities. Of course being the pessimist that I am, I'm sure mine will be equally challenging.
