Now that is a good idea! I have an extra body from an M820 just sitting on the ground. I also have a 20' connex command center with heat/air, but it doesn't expand out. I'll have to think through the options.
To answer a few questions:
The rear axle steers, but does not lift. It is weird how they spaced it back 80" while the other rears are 61".
The PLS water distributor is 3000 gallons and weighs 16.5 tons when full. The truck loads/unloads it full no problem. I also have a 2000 gallon...
Yep, the gearing is the culprit. 4.56 gears in the M1008. Not the best for highway use. You could switch to bigger tires to help it out some. Try some HMMWV tires on it.
Thanks for the comments. The truck is designated M1074, although it probably should be XM1074 because it never went into production. I think only 8 were made for testing. Oshkosh won the PLS and they have been building the real M1074 and M1075
This truck has the original Cummins 444, but a...
On Saturday morning, my Kenworth PLS was delivered. By Saturday afternoon, I had the truck helping out with a grass fire. Here are some pics as the truck was delivered, loading the water distributor, and at the fire. About 5000 acres were burned.
I have seen a few trucks lined up for sale on the South side of HWY 51, between Stillwater and I-35. Drive that way and you can't miss them. I think he even has a M109 for you. Sorry I can help you with parts for that.
I heard of a guy in Binger, but when I called him for a transfer case he wanted a couple thousand. What do you need? I might have it in my surplus yard. :-D
I usually have a decent supply of super singles. Market prices usually range from $50-$200 per tire and $100-$250 per rim. It all depends on wheel style, wheel type, condition, tread level, tread pattern, location, etc.
Do you think a CUCV is noisy and smoky?
I am moving into a new neighborhood and the proposed deed restrictions include the following statement, "No noisy or smoky vehicles shall be operated on the Property." I asked how noisy and smoky would be measured and was sent the following response...
I would suggest a review of the technical manuals and a few searches on Steel Soldies to better understand the 24V system on the CUCV. Jumping the front battery only gets you 12V.
