Deuces are much cheaper to maintain. Work on the 5 ton's engine and tranny will set you back a bunch.

If he went hub deep or more in the river you'll want to check the hubs, differentials, etc for water also.

It would be better just to pull the engine and check it out. It will pay off in the long run.
