Hi scrapdaddy, we don't use any additives in our diesel fuel, but we have a tank on the back of our diesel Ford that holds ~75 gal. It is constantly fueling the tractor, generators, and of course the truck, and we keep it topped up. So there is never a situation where we are storing a bulk...
Hello steel, Not sure of the R value nor of the cost of new material as we purchased a stack that had been dismantled from an indoor freezer. Since VA next door to NC and we have lots of leftovers PM us and maybe we can help you.
Sarge, you said a mouthful! Each project begets a whole bunch of others, and next thing you know there are more back burners than front burners!!
Hey sarge, after the separation there is a little bit of ethanol in a lot of water. It evaporates out pretty quickly, but we never did any large amounts. If you know someone who makes biodiesel at home they may have some ideas about drying the wash water out of the final product (the...
Does it strike anyone else that especially in tough economic times this is a horrific waste of time and taxpayers' money? Codes are supposed to promote safety, not be a means for narrow-intestined fussbudgets to harrass folks....
Good old Catch-22; the officer "sees nothing wrong" and cannot cite a violation, but you are expected to move the bloody things around to "show progress"????
Well, I always heard the saying that the only choices we don't have in life are our relatives and our neighbors....
Good morning, sarge,
Crude separation method is to shake half the amount of water with gas containing ethanol. Ethanol is attracted to the water layer. Allow to settle then drain off bottom water layer or siphon off top gas layer. We stopped monkeying with this when we found a couple of...
Good morning, crankshaft,
Test stand is all steel, base is 2 x 4 tubular and mating surface for engine 1/2 in plate steel. Opening cut with torch and ground smooth, welded to base. Casters and pull handle available at tractor supply shop. Nothing fancy but works great and very stable.
Found ours on Government Liquidation. There are mixed opinions on GL from other folks on this site; they can be complex to deal with, to say the least.
Good morning, hotdog,
The biggest problem we have at the trough these days is fuel. We have been replacing some parts such as tanks with stainless steel and it helps, and there are a few stations fairly close that sell ethanol-free fuel. When those run out we need to extract the ethanol...
Hey scrapdaddy, we're there as well. We have two on trailers and they are adapted for quick response with quick-connects directly to transfer switches. The transfer switches on the houses have built-in females, and the trailers have 50ft dropcords with male ends. These generators are in...
Hello all, thought you might be interested in seeing this test stand. We have used it for many years and it works great. When rebuilding a mule engine, or checking a used engine before installing, we attach or bolt the motor to the front of the vertical bracket facing the pull handle. As per...
Hey Gary, depending on your climatic conditions, this shelter allows you to remove all panels if you wish or keep some in place. But you need to remove a minimum of 3 panels, one where the fan is for MEP 003a, two, for the control panel, and another for the exhaust. The enclosure as pictured...
Hi islandguy, great question. The enclosure is just for storage and maintaining the generator in stable conditions between uses. When the unit is in operation, some of the panels will be removed for air, exhaust, etc, allowing it to operate in the conditions it is designed to do. When the...
Hey guys, thought you might enjoy this pic of part of our stable, two of which are working just about every day. The hardest worker of the bunch is the one at the front, with a plastic seat mounted to plywood. The plywood protects the deck, has a cutout for accessing the engine hatch, and the...
Hey guys, may sound silly in the middle of a heat wave, but winter is not far away. Thought you all may be interested in a design for a heated and conditioned enclosure for our beloved generators. The pics are better than a thousand words, but basically there is four 6 x 6 treated posts, one...
Good points, Jon. There is a difference between outright garbage and clutter, rodent/pest harborages, potential contaminants of private wells (which we depend on for water in our rural setting) and useful or interesting stuff that may not be tidy. Involving law or code enforcement should be a...
