Military Trailers still at work (plus mule)

Glad you like the set up. I'm sure it could be adapted to other applications -- but boy, does it simplify the wood routine!

Recovering an M101a2 from GL - what to take

Better to have an don't need, than need and don't have. Good luck and happy trails!

Recovering an M101a2 from GL - what to take

As the old saying goes, slow and sure gets the job done. Since you don't know the conditions the unit has been subjected to, extra planning, moderate speed, and like you said, proximity to WalMart or other venues for extra stuff is a really good idea! Happy trails!

Recovering an M101a2 from GL - what to take

Water and Advil for the trip; something cold after you get the unit home and safe Great, thorough list!

Military Trailers still at work (plus mule)

Hello all, Although we didn't get the snow here that they did farther northeast, it's still in the 30-40's and we need to keep the house toasty warm. We thought you all would like to see our trailers at work as shelters for split wood. We protect the interiors with plywood, and in the summer...

Recovering an M101a2 from GL - what to take

All important points. These units have been stored for who-knows-how-long under who-knows-what conditions, even before being relegated to auction. Buyer beware of course (but what a reward for the patient and prepared!!)

Recovering an M101a2 from GL - what to take

Also another caveat: download pictures and make notes of identifying markings, serial numbers, etc. so you get the unit that you actually bid on. We've had the experience of going to pick one up and have the person at the site try to substitute another that didn't have the bows and cover like...

Recovering an M101a2 from GL - what to take

Good luck, take a floor jack, and remember that some of those tires are rated to run at fairly low pressures

    battery maintainers

Or the vehicle not starting at all!!!

    battery maintainers

We use a marine battery charger on our vehicles and generators, that are designed to charge 2 12-V batteries simultaneously. These units are great because they are sealed, waterproof and are capable of 12amps/battery. A bit pricey, about $130 apiece, but they stay permanently mounted and just...

    Let's try that attachment again---

    replacement seat

I'll try to attach a file here--the pic shows a lineup of mules in the neighborhood, and the one in the foreground uses a plastic molded chair seat, bolted to a sheet of 5/8" plywood cut to fit the deck. This works extremely well, and also protects the deck. This particular mule (an A3 model)...

    fuel treatment for ethonol gas

The research is with cellulosic ethanol, duckweed biodiesel, and other plant platforms. Landfill mining is also taking place regarding methane capture, not that this is a new concept. I don't work in any of those industries but I know people who do. We might wish to look overseas for what...

    fuel treatment for ethonol gas

Organic material, heat, pressure, and time. Lots of research into algae, duckweed, switchgrass, and other plant bases going on in this area (central NC); the next few years should be interesting to see which platform is most successful!

    fuel treatment for ethonol gas

Very true about heavy subsidization of the oil industry, plus the new emphasis on natural gas retrieval by fracking (while natural gas is still being flared off in the conventional oil fields--do we see a disconnect here?) I don't pretend to be an expert on Brazil, my understanding was that the...

    fuel treatment for ethonol gas

You may not get a straight answer from the municipality about their treatment system, but it is good to know if you need filtration, etc. if they use the chloramine method to protect plumbing and yourselves. You know that strong, penetrating chlorine odor in a badly kept swimming pool? It is...

We'd like to add our welcome to the site from Pittsboro, NC (M274 enthusiasts)

    fuel treatment for ethonol gas

Taking the thread in a slightly different direction, since we are talking about contamination of water by various chemicals--How many of you are on municipal water, and are thinking you may be safer than someone relying on a groundwater well? Traditional water treatment has involved...

    fuel treatment for ethonol gas

some of us still drive cars from the 80's and earlier so the passage of time has not fixed the problems ethanolized fuel causes in these vehicles

    fuel treatment for ethonol gas

The corn-ethanol business would not exist without very heavy subsidization. Brazil generates ethanol fuel solely from sugar cane waste--there is a lot of experimentation with enzymatic digestion of other sources of cellulose to produce the sugars for fermentation.
