Did a little investigation, although it is too **** hot to do much. Pulled the top cover on the t-case to check out the linkage. Although you can't see much, everything looks fine. The safety wire is all in place and the shift rod slides smoothly into HIGH and NEUTRAL.
I wonder about that...
Here's the deal, hoss. You're asking a question we can't answer. The question boils down to which one do you like better because, in all seriousness, either one will meet your needs. There have been a million threads on that topic and at the end of the day it is simply personal preference...
Serviced the fuel filters. They were nasty. Got the plugged draincocks on all three cleared out and the housings rinsed out. Also replaced a leaky injector return line. Early results indicate that it starts easier and the idle doesn't dip when I shut the in-tank pump off. Must've been...
Went and got my VIN inspection this morning to get a proper title. It was about a 45 mile trip and the truck ran strong there and back. I spent more time (hour and a half) waiting in the DMV office than driving.
Fluids and filters this weekend and I should be in pretty good shape.
Old post, I know, but whatever happened with this? I have the exact same problem. Every once in a while, the starter will spin but not engage the flywheel. I assume the Bendix gear is not kicking out. I'm guessing weaker batteries is the culprit, but I'm wondering if I need to pull it off...
Anybody else have this problem? I've searched extensively on here and either couldn't find the same problem or, those that did, never posted a resolution.
It will shift from HIGH to NEUTRAL and back with no problems and does not pop out of gear. But, I can't get it to shift into LOW...
Any follow-up on this? I have a similar issue but I can't get mine to shift into low at all (moving or stopped). Feels like it's running into a brick wall.
Yippee, got the new parking brake cable on last night. Getting the shoes adjusted was a little tricky (tight quarters), but once it was all done it holds great. I tested it out by letting it roll and then yanking the handle. It comes to a sudden stop and holds great even with the truck...

Or, depending on what you want to spend, you could find an HMMWV. It may not meet all your criteria, but it would be the best combo of street plus off-road capability.
Little progress. Found the air leak at the transfer case, one of the fittings there was loose. Also got the compressor oiled with air-tool oil and got a bunch of gunk out of the "wet" air tank. The air system is in pretty good shape for now. Some really small leaks but nothing that would...

Just to clarify, I don't have the antenna or antenna base. It did have some hacked together antenna mount which consisted of a tube U-bolted to the cab.
I've got you in line behind maddawg
Good info, but I'm not looking to use it myself. I'm just wondering if there is any interest in this stuff out there or if I should trash it. If it's going to cost someone $2500 in addition to this stuff to get a working radio, I'm guessing it's not in too high of demand.
