i agree it can work in a perfect setup ...with the proper control of the voltage regulators..but not with off the shelf alts and this means it is not practical..this is why they make battery equalizers they have the voltage sensing circuitry needed to make it practical..and they eliminate the...
Awsome truck my friend.. Keep it all together and you will be surpized how much they sell for.....As far as i have seen they were all the yellow color ..althought i think the army did have some they painted to thier colors after the fact
i agree it would be better as a separate part that could be used with your hub steps.. they could be like 1/8 inch thick it could be cut from a flat piece the center cut out would become the end cap..and you would just use a peice of round tube to space the end cap the appropriate amount
Yes like i said there are way to many veriables to think it could be a practical setup..most systems using two alts to charge the same batteries use issolators and use one as the primary and the other only when the load demands it reguardless of what the regulater is doing on the secondary...
i'm guessing those use the same type of electrical system as the hwmmv uses with a dual voltage alt....they have a separate regulater to turn on and of the 12 volt side and 24 volt side separately..it's a pretty complicated system and very expensive.. the alt itself sell for 1700..and a...
plym49 do you have a truck with that type of electrical system ?have you ever tested multiple alt of the same or different part number?do you know how the 24 volt alt charges the two 12 volt batteries wired in series?ac and dc electric work totally different ..If you know anything about...
This is exactly what happens when you draw from the front battery to get 12volts....it discharges the front battery and overcharges the second..now you are gonna draw from the first and hope the alt charges it exactly when and at the same rate as it is being taken from the first battery befor...
ok im gonna show you how power is not power ...ok if the load is across the 24 volt side and the 12 volt alt turns on before the 24 volt alt does it will charge the first battery more than the second gets charged..then when the 24 volt alt would have turned on it wont..the 24 volt alt looks for...
I use to have a 1948 ford f6 marmon harrington conversion..It was ordered for the gary airport..It had a wopping 3000 miles when i got it.It was one of the rarest trucks i had ever seen let alone be able to own it for a while..Most marmon harrington conversions were snowgos like the one you...
i got a great idea- option for you with these steps..:idea:maybe you could enclose the center part so they could be installed in place of the rear axles or front hub covers for guys making trailers or wanting to relieve some binding on long hauls?..i would be in the market for some that are...
i love the design..Looks like you really put alot of time into them..Knowing what it costs to have them cut and the time to weld them up..you did a great job at a great price..
When did two alts become two trains...Do any of the guys that drive trains have a vehicle with two different voltage alts charging two 12 volt batteries in series? If not you are guessing at what it would do based off of a therory.Trains and electrical systems are two very very different...
the lowest amp alt that fits my brackets is a 40 amp the biggest is 100+amp..you can run winches, hydrualic pumps.. lights,, radios.blower motors, heaters whatever they make in 12 volts with less than 100amp draw so that doesnt limit you much at all
as far as different ways to get 12-24 volt systems ..there a couple ways that have come up ...one that has been the main discussion is running two alts to two batteries in series....i think it could work under certain conditions but i have yet to see it done ...if it worked as some say i think...
the main differences in the different ways to do this are ...amps,redundecy of having different sysytems .cost..if you are only looking to install a radio . a converter might be a great choice for you .. if you want to add trailer breaks ,radio and some lights a converter or battery equalizer...
