that plug that your are talking about from what i could tell when i was taking mine apart and reassembling it was to be able to take a punch and drive the woodruff keys into the slot.
a fairlead is what the cable will rub on when you are not winching straight forward... some are roller fairleads and some are hawse fairleads. the rollers one had rollers of course and the hawse is just a peice of steel that is usually rounded smooth... I would like to find a roller fairlead for...
I am not sure but i dont think you would want to put the winch cable on in reverse. If you do this then your Hi and Lo on the winch would let the cable out and you would only have one speed going in. maybe i'm worg but just dont sounds right.

thanks CARNAC... the vin plate thats in the truck is the one the the GL issued the title for but it doesn't look like it ever had a tank or a winch on it... prob just a plain jane m35 with a rare vin plate
its not that i want to put the plates in the back but that i want to turn the wheel dish out and see the bolt heads and not stud ends... I think the plate should be on the outside of the wheel so just in case the bolts on the wheels come loose the lug nuts will keep it all on the axel wich will...
I thought there might be a safer way to do it. I wasn't sure how safe it was for those to be able to spin verses the splines that originally held them in place.
