Yes, absolutely. One day I'll go that route, when I near the bottom of my ever-growing list of things to do to keep the truck on the road and safe. I'll eat my words this May when I make my first trip to Aberdeen meet and someone clicks the power switch ON.
You are correct.
A motivated thief will steal my truck no matter how many barriers I put up. I have a heavy chain, keyed ignition in series with the push-button start (either take apart the dash or d!ck around with which key position is correct) and currently, the driveshaft is on the floor...
Go to your local auto parts store, $10, switch with four keys, drill a hole, move wires from push button start to keyed switch.
If you really want peace of mind that no one will steal your truck, take out a driveshaft. :-)
Correct me if I'm wrong, please do, but there have been multiple conversations about the high speed gears, and multiple conversations about the longterm driveshaft problems with our trucks. If I am contemplating the high speed gear change (not delving into the reasons/logic, that has been...
It appears there are a few different options, and please correct me if I'm wrong:
1). have a custom CV driveshaft made for your LMTV, and it will reduce your likelihood of having a problem, but not too terribly much better off than stock configuration with a stock driveshaft in specs
2). clock...
While we are talking about driveshafts, what is the cause for the extreme sensitivity of the drivetrain to slop in the slip joint, and what is the cause of the slop in the slip joint? My local transmission shop says that anything less than a 1/16th" isn't worth worrying about, yet the TM is...
I cant speak for anyone else here, but in my (admittedly limited) experience with my LMTV, when the transmission is cold and will start from 3rd gear, it gets up and going like it was just kicked in the @XX by a spurred boot. Much better get-up-and-go than when the transmission is warm and...
I too bought the Tiger Tool listed above, about $250 with free shipping from the online book store. As NDT said, use the right tool. I hit everything with penetrating lube the night before. Next day, removal of rear driveshaft from start to finish took less than 30 minutes w/o air tools or...
All joking aside, if you need a driver's door glass and Eastern has it, you arent going to find many alternatives. Pay them the $$$ and get it double wrapped in bubble wrap, double boxed, and it should survive normal UPS/FEDEX to anywhere in the lower 48. You're only other alternative is to...
Close. But wrong. $325
(I have no financial interest in this transaction)

If Eastern has one In stock, take it no matter the price. These windows are worth their weight in gold due to the simple laws of supply v demand. Look at govplanet auctions...nearly EVERY m1081 is missing the drivers glass, at a minimum,
If not the entire door. And the latch. And the striker...
Can you provide a link or specific name for The u-joint puller required to pull the driveshaft without damaging anything? I need to pull my driveshaft due to out-of-spec play at the yoke.
First modification I made was to put a keyed ignition in series with the push button start. It's the first vehicle I've owned with push button start, couldn't get rid of it. Like Will said, if you pull the dash panel and look underneath, a simpleton can bypass the keyed switch. But it's not the...
Goodyear vs. Michelin are the usual debate for highway and offroad, respectively...but I dont recall hearing much about the XZL's by Michelin. Anyone use these, and what are the results (wear/grip/etc)? Seems like the tread pattern is closer to the Goodyear. Higher load rating (J vs. G)...
I used Jones Motors (aka Jones Express) for shipping, got them thru a Broker. Spoke to the truck driver at delivery, and he said he won't take a load for under $3/mile. Makes a profit above $2/mile, but not enough to deal with the time/hassle of loading/unloading.
I might recommend placing a...
I called Mike about 45 days ago and talked over the phone. At that time he said he still had them in stock, $550 per pumpkin, and he would put it on a pallet. Even recommended a shipping company that he deals with often. Called the shipping company, they have me an estimate of $330 to ship the...
