Yeah, yeah, that is the one I remember. Did you go with deuce springs in the rear? Are the tires 14R20s or 16R20s? How does it ride and what kind of road speed are you getting?
You can bolt up M939 axles to older five tons with no problem. I have done it. They are the same housing. I believe you can also switch over the axles from hyd to air and vice versa.
I'm interested in bobbing a 5 ton. I have seen pics on Dave's Eastern Surplus website, but not many others. Has anyone here bobbed a 5 ton or have some pics to share?
We don't like trees here. You are looking at the Tallgrass Prairie. You can see more at http://www.nps.gov/tapr/ or http://www.nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/oklahoma/preserves/tallgrass.html
M915 series trucks have the big cam Cummins 400 w/ turbo and Cat 7155 16sp semi-auto...
Maddawg- Yes, it is a M919. Probaby about 29-30K without the mixer body.
Sermis- The adapters would be for the medium towbar but they would have 1.5" pins, not 1" or 3/4". Should be a little wider too. I'm not sure on the rim. I haven't been through them yet.
Swede- The wrecker is M816...
I have decided to part with the M819 and have sold it. I took a few pics to remember her by when she is gone. Even though she isn't OD or CARC, I'm still gonna miss her! Tractor/wrecker combinations are sweet!
I had to do a one man recovery this weekend with the big towbar. It was a challenge, but not nearly as bad as I expected. (The wrecker helped out tremendously.) Next time, it would be a lot easier if I could find some 1.5" adapters for the medium towbar. Anyone have any?
Truck looks great. I see you called in the professionals to get it home. Have you taken it for a spin yet? I might be in Bartlesville this weekend. Send me a PM if you will be around.
Shouldn't be much, especially if the tires are inflated good. If it is a front load lowboy, it will be going downhill anyways. The semi might have a humongus winch you can use. If not, get him to pull it off with a strap or chain. If it is a rear load lowboy, why not chain off to a tree and...
The first pic barely shows his rock crawler, rumored to be one of original tube buggies and very capable. I think he won Top Truck Challenge. Maybe Spicergear knows him and can comment more on his rig. I am working on a similar setup.
Most of us are pretty dang cheap. If you have a preliminary cost, add some proft and post up an estimated price. Then I can tell you if I am interested. I doubt you could move enough kits to make it worth your time and effort.
It is an M-920 with Michelin XZL 445/65R22.5 tires on it, an M-1070 grille, and an M-880 communications box for a sleeper on it. Now this is cool!
I have seen the article and it is a really cool setup. He just used the same front clip to make it look the same. It is not a true HET. Let me see if I can find it....
Bruce, my link was purely for fun. I, too, remember seeing the M1070 for sale in UK. You are correct, it was tan. I looked and actually found that I had the link saved in my favorites. Here is the link: http://www.milweb.net/webverts/11976/ Nothing is there now.
Bruce, I think the M1070 HET you are looking for can be purchased here:

The ad says make offer: rofl
DMA also flipped his rear hubs. I haven't seen anyone else do that on a 5 ton!
The truck above may have HEMTT split ring wheels on it. Tires are certainly Michelin XZL 16.00R20.
