That's a nice Dodge! I love the look of the old flatfenders. A new motor, new fluids and bearings, a LOT of pressure washing, and she'll most likely be good as new! It's funny how mud can preserve things...

Tap the starter housing. Also- chock the **** out of it, put it in neutral, put the T-case in neutral, set the parking brake, LEAVE THE ENGINE STOP CABLE OUT, and try jumping the starter solenoid.

Private vendors... look through the "parts" on the classified on this site, and pay attention to who talks about having parts here on the forums. Since you're on the opposite side of the country from me, I'm afraid I can't make any suggestions off of the top of my head, but they're out there.
Deuces have all open differentials, with no lockers. What the airshift does is it used air to shift the transfercase so that it powers the front axle. (Like going from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive in a pickup truck.)
I doubt you're going to get an FAV one. I do know that you can get civvie Gelandewagens from importers here in the US--you could probably build your own mock-up of a FAV out of one. They're evidently very capable...

Just be patient. The right one will pop up when the time is right. It's painful, but with these you don't want to act too hastily lest you get screwed or wind up with a bad egg.
How do you guys dispose of this? It's obviously pretty nasty stuff--and I just dumping dangerous stuff like this in a corner of the yard is a major peeve of mine...
Collect it in a garbage bag or two, or a paper bag? I'd definitely use some plastic as a dropcloth under where I'm working... but...
Yeah, if you got a bunch of bodies and stuff laying around, I'd say go for it... I've seen one with 'em and it didn't look too bad at all. Had a 6AT Cummins stuffed in there too...
