I think I found a happy median. After several suggestions to leave it where it was I advanced it almost back to 25, I think I'm around 24 now or so depending on the angle you look at the harmonic balancer.
Now all I need is the new thermostat and I can get the thing back together.

Too late for that question because I already have. But I'm thinking about putting it back to 25 degrees after talking with a few people. The radiator is going back in soon and I want to have it right the first time. It's at 20 now and it would only take me 20 minutes to change back.
I do...
I was going to just leave it in and put the whole thing in hot water to test it but i guess I may as well replace the thing if I'm redoing the entire cooling system and making sure it's all right anyways.
Since the radiator is out I'm thinking about retarding the timing for the turbo install I...
Sounds like I'll fatally injure the thing by removing it. Can I just pour really hot water on it with it in the housing instead of removing it just to test it? From all I know the thing still works fine I'm just going through the whole system. Seems like I could heat up some water, take the...
Ive asked the question on how to remove the thermostat from the housing and all the answers I got say they just drop out or you may have to pry a little. Well, mine almost seems like it's pressed it. I've done all the prying I can stand without feeling like I'm about to snap the cast supports on...
I pulled the rear water manifold off without really any problems from the bolts. I'll be carefull with the front one though in case I got lucky. The bolts are pretty rusty.
Yall think this would be a good time to reset the timing for the turbo since the radiatior and all is out? I'm still...
Made some progress on the cooling system today and the parts list is getting a little smaller. Replaced every 2" coolant hose. Now I need to figure the size for the smaller manifold hoses and I'll be all done. I ordered an NOS compressor pulley assembly off eBay and it should be here soon. I got...
How do you remove the entire pulley assembly from the compressor shaft? I removed the nut but I'm guessing it's somewhat pressed on. I need to invest in a good puller, maybe I can find one that will work.

Radiator is out and if I cut the belt I stll have to put a new one on. I want to make things like they should be. Can I get the pulley assembly off without removing the compressor. I can just see it flopping around my bench after 30 mins to remove it. Is the pulley pressed or just keyed? I'm...
I cannot remove the front part of the compressor wheel to remove the belt. I followed the TM as far as turning it CCW. I do not have a compressor wrench I just have a few pipe wrenches big enough to fit. I had 3-4' pipes on the wrenchs and it wouldn't budge. Finally one of the clamping ears...
Well some of you may have seen my "losing coolant" thread. I went and borrowed a radiator pressure tester to come home to find it was too small. I decided to remove the radiator and take it to get cleaned and repaired. I started digging into the job by removing the brush gaurd, hoses, braces...
Someone once tried towing a deuce with a ranger and the results weren't all that positive. Drive it! Drive it off roads a little to get used to the shifting and brake way ahead of time and you'll be fine. Make sure all the lights work.

I'll probably pull it out and have a shop look it over since new ones are so expensive before any kind of long road trip. One thing did cross my mind though. Is it possible my minor head gasket leak is pressurizing the radiation forcing the coolant out of somewhere along with the heat expansion...
Autozone has a tester they'll loan me. I drove the truck today and did some more troubleshooting. I got it up to operating temp by driving it around the 2 mile loop in my farm community for several laps. The first sign of leaking coolant shows up in the bottom of the shroud. I drove it for a...
RE: Re: RE: Coolant leak
The pressure testers I looked at online use a cap and don't cover the neck. What type of tester do I need to find to cover the neck?
-Kelly
My multi has about 1,200 hours on it. I don't run it really hard and change the oil every year which is about 100 hours. What's the biggest killer to this engine and do you think I still have alot of life left in mine even though it's so old. I see no rebuild tag on it and it's a '68. I am...
My main problem with pressurizing the system is the overflow tube on the neck is broke off. I guess I need to solder that back first or something. Is the radiatior hard to remove? I wouldn't think so on that truck.
