    Best year for a M1009

If there are any tweaks, maybe the 86's are only slower than 34 degree molasses compared the normal 32 degree molasses!;)

CUCV tool kit...what do you carry?

I keep one of these in anything I'm driving daily. You can just fix anything with this set. Well worth the $70! 148 Piece Professional Tool Set 1/4-1/2 Drive 037103200525#

    Re-geared my M1028 to 3.73

That is a great mod for them. 4.56's are just too low for a 6.2 powered truck with stock size tires. Even at 55mph, the truck is running so high above it's torque peak that they drag off on hills worse than trucks with higher gears. If you put a turbo on it with the 3.73's, you'll have a great...

    M1009 Value

Decent, relatively rust free M1009's bring about $3500 here. Trucks with rust or mechanical issues go for between $1500 and $2500.

What caused my paint gun to do this?

The truck is looking good though![thumbzup]

What caused my paint gun to do this?

They usually do that when the air vent on the top of the cup gets clogged. I usually keep a small piece of wire (single strand, like a bread tie with the plastic pulled off) stuck in mine, and I'll work it up and down and around several times while painting to make sure it doesn't get clogged...

-10 outside and the m1009 started...

Mine cranked back a few weeks ago in 18 degrees weather with no real issues, but as others have said they are loud, the glowplugs have cycle several ties, and it takes forever for the heater to get warm. I installed a Kat's 600v block heater and it starts with the GP's cycling only about 5 or 6...

6.2 with turbo build in progress

Try to keep it a fairly small, low profile pressure chamber. I put the one off of my '67 C-30 on the 6.2 with the Banks Sidewinder, and it was much more responsive, and has a lot less turbo laag. The Banks unit is actually too big, and I am going to fab a smaller one to replace it. Here is the...

    I bought a M715 today!

Recovery Successful! I brought the M715 home today. To my knowledge, there is not any of these locally, we got tons of looks, finger pointing, thumbs up, and comments on the way home. One guy at a gas said asked "What the h--- is THAT?", so I told him, and he said "I didn't know what it was...

    715 pics

Very nice! The only thing I would do is paint that trans cooler black, but that's just my humble opinion. I hope mine turns out that nice!

What headlight bezel do I order...

Here's a pair that will probably go cheap. (not mine) Headlight Bezels-1984 GM Milittary Truck 1 1/4 ton CUCV - eBay (item 280610062081 end time Jan-04-11 16:58:06 PST)

What headlight bezel do I order...

You need '83 - '84 single headlight bezel, even if your truck is an '85 or '86. GM built all CUCV's to 1984 specs.

My m1009 is getingcrappy winter fuel economy 13-14mpg

Following up on advancing the pump, here's a rear wheel dyno chart showing the effects of advancing the pump. Advancing the pump .040" pretty much exactly equals 3 degress, and this is safe for the engine. It is a free mod, and 6HP and 15 ft lb at the rear wheels is very noticeable. I've done...

My m1009 is getingcrappy winter fuel economy 13-14mpg

No not really, but the timing chain can stretch over time. That usually isn't a sudden thing though. These engines almost always perform better and get a little better mileage with the pump advanced about about .040" or 1mm. 13mpg sounds low to me, but it doesn't get cold enough here to have to...
