    1009 mystery issue

The injectors are lines are actually 19mm and 16mm, but since 19mm is .748" and 16mm is .6299" so you can sub 3/4 and 5/8. I'm like you though, the only metric wrench I usually use is that 15mm, and the 10mm if I'm pulling the valve covers, oil pan, etc.

You sound like me! I try to use standard wrenches whenever I can, even if they are metric bolts!;)

I thought spin on filters was a civi mod...

The funny thing is that it appears to have all military upgrades, but some of the civi stuff left on there. From the pics, it has all the 24v stuff, pintle, B/O lights, mil spec CDR valve and hosing. But the extra stuff that isn't mil spec like hood insulation, air cleaner tubing brackets, spin...

How much unusable fuel is in an M1009 tank?

Don't know about the fuel thing. I always put more fuel in at 1/4 tank...

    Under Carriage

I did this to my M1009, except I used aklyd equipment enamel, which probably about the same as the JD Blitz Black. I just keep putting coats on it until I used up the gallon. It looks great. In some of the pics it looks glossy, but it dried to a nice satin/dull finish.

I thought spin on filters was a civi mod...

That truck also has the boot and support bracket for civi air filter duct.

I thought spin on filters was a civi mod...

I've never seen that before. Do they have the VIN# listed? That filter housing is from the '82 - '83 models. Maybe it was a pre-CUCV?

M1009 bumpers pita to remove...6 hours...

They sell galvanized ones at Lowe's and that's what I used when I put the bed back on my C-30. I think the galvanized ones with some anti-sieze should do ok, especially in your warmer weather climate. They will make you wanna pull your hair out though. I have got to where I just cut them off to...

M1009 bumpers pita to remove...6 hours...

Hex bolts on the outside of the bumpers is going to look like badookie, IMO. You will have to a use good sized washer to make it work. I would have just left then on and painted it if I was not going to put it back like it should be. The hard part is over now. You could go back with stainless...

How much unusable fuel is in an M1009 tank?

I always clean mine, and I've yet to have replace one. As far as cleaning them, a lot of people use WD-40/PB Blaster and some use brake cleaner. I've used WD, but I've found that diesel fuel mixed with a little acetone works better than anything I've tried. The "creeping" effect of the diesel is...

How much unusable fuel is in an M1009 tank?

That is the result of blowby. The CDR valve (tuna can looking valve on the RH side of the engine) is not functioning, they will build up excess crankcase pressure case tthem to push an oil vapor out of the dipstick. If the CDR is working correctly, it usually the rings are worn and only...

    Vacuum Lines - Missing Components

Yes, you add fluid through the dipstick tube. To check your level, park the truck on a fairly level surface, and check the level with the truck running in Park at operating temperature. On the fittings, I replaced mine because they were dry and brittle, and I had to delete the double fitting...

Do you remove the brush guard before painting?

I love those old pics of these things. It seems that old pics of older MV's are easier to find than CUCV's. Here's a few more I've found.

Do you remove the brush guard before painting?

The camo pattern was never taped off from the factory. The pattern was kinda freehanded and is fuzzy around the edges. Since the camo was painted that way, I would think it was left on. I know the military painted them that way.

    My Wonderful Christmas CUCV adventure!!!

Well, it did bend the tow hook on the rear of it. I had to massage it a little to get my J-hook out of of the hook. I couldn't find a hook or anything that even looked remotely safe to hook to on the front, and owner said there was a hook on the back. I put it in 4-low, and after I got all the...

Bob, I'm going to be calling you this coming week sometime. I have a lot questions and I need several items. Do you happen to have gasket sets for the Tornado engines?
