Absolutely right Kenny. You pump, it squirts. The end has a nozzle that lets you vary the type of stream from straight to a fanned out type. They always taught us to just put your thumb over the end of the nozzle to get the pattern you wanted, and saved water too.
Woo hoo! Finally something...
Ahhh the joys of a stretched out hood release cable. My civvy K5 did the exact same thing. Those hood release cables get stretched out over time and voila! No hood release.
I was able to get mine to release by taking a long-ish and rather thin screwdriver, going in the center of the...
Here's what Leonard is talking about... A pulaski is a wildland fire axe.. it's got an axe bit on one side, and a grub hoe on the other. You can cut a lot of fireline in a big hurry with one of these!
And the Indian fire pump is a backpack fire pump. We called them "piss pumps" and with your...
Well, the GM Parts Direct fees aren't really hidden as you'll see them added on when you check out. But they don't appear until you start to finalize your order.
RE: heat safety
Been there Frank. A long time ago, I spent an afternoon in the back of an ambulance at wildland fire school getting re-hydrated after I didn't do a very good job hydrating myself in the first place. Not fun.
Drink lots of water gang.. and start long BEFORE you go out in the...
The problem with GM Parts Direct is that they may have an attractive price, but once they hit you with their service charge and shipping, you're not getting much of a deal anymore.
At least that's been my experience.
I cast my vote.. big OD Iron all the way!
I just wish someone (nods in the direction of David Doyle... :D ) would do a nice historical piece on WWII International Harvester trucks. Sure would like to know more about this FFN-3 (M-3L-4) I'm restoring... not to mention see some more photos.
RE: Re: RE: Selling my arctic M1009
Yup. Frank has certainly been taking good care of me, that's for sure! BTW, the FFN is all stripped down to the frame now, and ready for sandblast, prime and paint. Making progress! As soon as I can get a little forward momentum again (and sell my CUCV)...
Re: RE: Selling my arctic M1009
Hi Ethan,
The arctic kit is very involved, and is already installed on the truck. I have no interest in trying to "uninstall" all that. It would be a TON of work to remove, and the kit changes some parts out for parts unique to the arctic kit. For a full...
Hi Guys,
Shameless promotion here... I've put my '86 arctic kit equipped M1009 up for sale. See the classifieds for details, and just ask if you're interested in seeing more pics.
Selling it so I can raise some money to finish this project... (pics below)
Thanks!
According to the CA DMV, the vehicle must be manufactured after 1922, be at least 25 years old, and be of historic interest.
So you should be good to go. With the specified restrictions on use.
Yeah Will, the two trucks do look like close relatives. Figured you'd enjoy seeing that. I like the desert pattern too. Helps it stand out in a sea of green deuces.
I sold that truck about 2 years ago. But it's still getting good care and is now used a whole lot more than I ever did.
I know what you mean about the weight. I rolled mine up by myself for a parade once upon a time and it was tough... and mine was a vinyl top. Sure miss that truck.
I can only imagine how much worse the canvas would be! Your truck looks great tho!
As a side note, the Phoenix shown above (the yellow one) and Engine 285 (the blue one) are the same truck. They painted it blue before it was delivered to North Tree Fire... and of course added a few options too. The Phoenix is a purpose built fire truck, and was sold direct from Oshkosh...
"Either they got a truck in the back yard, or I don't wanna know how big the dog is that made that!!!" rofl
Sorry, couldn't resist. Glad you got it all sorted out Marcus, and I hope the $$$ isn't too bad getting your Ranger fixed up. And if it were me, I'd replace all those wheel cyls and...
