"GL admitted the aquisition prices are two decimal points off and they hope to get it corrected real soon."
Ok so I saw that, and I'm not one to quibble on the Milveh list too openly about that stuff, but come ON. Some of the numbers put up recently were so blatantly pulled out of someone's...
yep, front is external e-clips (1410, I believe), but the Trans-Tcase is bolted caps, same as Tcase-FrontTandem. Dunno about interaxle, but I think it's e-clips like the front.

Now maybe and just maybe,
The true value of deuces is coming out. Now, listen to me here. It could be that current demand for these trucks, with better visibility of them and perhaps somewhat of a shortage of them compared to numbers seen in surplus in past years/decades, has pushed the price...
"The 135 hp ldt is only 300 ft lbs you know...."
Wow..... I thought the LDT was more in the 400 range for Ft-lbs. That makes me feel even better about putting the 3208 in.
Last night I just realized that the brass syncro ring on the 4th+5th gears in the 6855 is wrong, wrong wrong. I had this...
It weighs more than that, I bet! I never got an accurate weight but the LDT was at LEAST 1200 lbs if it was an ounce.
What's the blower on that thing? How bombable is it? That would be the way to go. Heck, if you get 100,000 miles out of any engine you put into the deuce, I think you'll still...
The things you need to look at are
Top RPM (remember, the LDT just runs out of RPM), but rare to see a 3000 RPM diesel
Top HP (LDT crests at 135, so that's an issue going up hills and with top speed against a headwind)
and torque isn't that much of an issue.
You know how your deuce screams...
I've heard that there are differences in the pistons as well, but don't know who I've heard that from, when, or whatever. I was going to go with a 5 ton turbo and hope to bump some more power out of the LDT but was warned off by people who said I'd cook pistons. I was going to run a pyro on the...
I chose it because of the .69 OD.
My requirement was a 6000-series spicer 5 speed with the .69 OD, since I had my doubts about the 3053A handling that much torque, and I figured if I was doing it once, I'd get lowest OD I could find. My Ford-bequeathed 3208 came with a 6052 behind it, so my...
I just pulled mine. I used a skytrax offroad forklift. It was cake easy. I had the thing ready to pull in about 6 hours of effort.
Just make sure you mark all of the connections well! There are quite a few air tube connections to the engine.
Cheers

I wonder if it's worth switching to optimas:

Thoughts? I can get Blem optimas for about $60 a piece.
Bob
I mean a viscous drive fan. The deuce fan is a direct connect. A fan with viscous coupling spins only when the engine gets hot (in theory).

As far as a fan clutch goes, it would be very easy to put one between the fan and the pulley that drives it. The only consideration would be OAL of the fan assembly... perhaps there's a shorter fan available, however, with a viscous drive that would help control the cooling a bit better.
Bob
I'd just wire up two 12v fans in series. The fans, believe it or not, on Ford Taurus's (and related blue oval products) are very good cooling fans and come with their own shrouds. You want to look for the 3 wire fans. Google this and you'll find that they are very desirable to motorheads...
Good stuff from ebay

Oh well MT ain't MN. Sorry - thought they were MN.
Bob
Sweet. Happy to hijack.
The 6855 Spicer was a real devil to find. I had to track one down in Nebraska. It weighs about 350 lbs. I think it might have been out of an old 5 ton, possibly Mil truck.
