Holy amazing metal fab.
I'd love to know what you used for your bottom leafs as well as the arms! I have made quite a few suspension arms, but nothing for a 14k vehicle. I'd probably make then out of quarter wall HREW (not DOM since I'm cheap)... what OD and wall did you make em out of?
Bob
Yeah I already have the rims, and it's funny - I was looking at a Ford F600 or something parked near my neighborhood napa the other day, and I noticed it had 6 on 8.75 wheels! :)
I got all my junk from a Hino.

Hi Tony,
Thanks. Call me a coward, but I'm too afraid of a premature death by decapitation by monkeying around with my junk and whatnot so I'm going to a one piece r22.5 wheel (which also has much better tire choices!). ;)
Bob
I'm looking at getting some recaps for the r22.5 wheels for the back of the deuce. Any suggestions on what to put on?
Also, what's the angle on getting serviceable but cheap tires in this size?
Cheers
Bob
Hey guys,
Just to let you know, certain Hinos came with r22.5 wheels that fit the deuce. I just scored 6 of em for $300!
Anyway, I'm dog tired from slaving in the sun, so I'll keep this short. I also got the brake system from the same truck, which I'll be (slowly) adapting onto my beast...
I am going to be taking out my engine soon. I've been delayed since I was sent the wrong gears for the new tranny (not high enough of an OD ratio) and so I'm still assembling the new junk for insertion.
Anyway, if you're interested in my takeout mill, drop me a line at
Cheers
Bob
The lip is for centering and is not needed, and the cone shape is just for looks.
By the way, I would be open to sending someone my hubs as partial payment on a set of selectros. ;)
Bob
I forgot - congratulations! Man, the deuces are the coolest trucks ever. You're going to be so psyched.
By the way, try to get some sleep the night before you go pick it up. I know I couldn't. ;)

Wow. It's a little heavy.
I'm the tall guy in the blue shirt. Note the dazed (crazed?) look in my eyes after unloading.
Now it's time to measure EVERYTHING and prepare tough for the 1 day swap fest. Oh yeah...
I will be converting my deuce to a car hauler, and I'll be extending the bed (at an angle), as well as putting actual tie-points in the bed as frame extensions. The bed is a really bad vehicle hauler stock, so you'll need to make some mods if you want to safely haul a vehicle.

My previous post has the entire procedure for making mine - to repeat it would probably just misstate what I've already said. I used successive passes with the transfer punches and the drillpress to copy over the hole circle from a driveflange that had been removed from an axle.
Look at the...
The detroits are cheap (under $400 compared to $600+ for other versions of the detroit) and easy to install, since you just open up the carrier and swap out the side gears and spiders.
By the way,

When I made mine, I used some existing flanges. Anyone who has tried to make 8 clean holes without some sort of pattern and without a mill and xy vise knows the joy of "booty" prototyping. :)
All about booty fab

Well, to be sure, when you say I HAVE one, this is true. It's sitting where my friend last left it, which is a pallet in Iowa. Delivery is in (omigosh!) 7 days. I figure I'll have it in and firing by turkeyday. It looks as though the gear swap in the tranny*, it is going to take a while, and...
