    M1083A1 or m923A2?

My M1078 gets a happy 8.5 mpg on a great day. Last trip from San Diego to Las Vegas and back was around 7mpg. They are big and flat nosed and are heavy pushing huge tires. I don't think you will ever get more than 9.5 mpg out of FMTV. If someone out there has do this, please let me know. The...

Manually shifting M1087 transmision while driving

Tennmogger, Thanks for your response, as well as everyone else . I can obtain full throttle as I have adjusted my throttle cable correctly. I seem to run full throttle most of the time. Just at times while pulling a long hill it feels like it could shift down sooner to keep it moving. I wish I...

Manually shifting M1087 transmision while driving

Just a general question concerning manually shifting the truck with up/down arrows while moving. I have always wondered what would happen if while pulling a hill and just wanting the truck to drop one more gear instead of lugging. I know the truck has to be STOPPED to be shifted into Mode. But...

    Update on Camper build w/pics

Having a great time with the truck. This was just a overnight trip out hiking the local mountains on San Diego/Mexico border. I still need to finish up some cabinet doors and trim at this point. Also get my new tires and hot water heater from a new Good friend in Kentucky that I met a few months...

M1078 frame flex question/compared to Unimog frame flex

Toby, Yes very sorry to hear this. As much as Eastern has made off many of us on this site they certainly should have made this right. Do people who advertise and sell on this site think we don't communicate about these issues? I've been told many stories about damaged items received from them...

    Update on Camper build w/pics

It would be a little tougher in tight trail turning I'm sure but where I live out west I think it would be fine. Well, except for the trail that was a sheer cliff up through the mountains! Probably wouldn't have made those turns and all. Lol

    Cat 3116 max altitude questions

I have a 1997 3116 engine and it has a max altitude sticker but I can't read it anymore. I'm wondering what it used to say, and if I could drive the truck up through Colorado through Vail 10,000 foot of elevation? Will these engines just starve for oxygen? I know it will be slow going, as is...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

My leveler valve does leak a little also once I get out. Then stops after about 5 seconds. Might just be what it does to adjust the cab once my butt get out of it. LOL

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Yes mine did the same. They were going for $250.00 each from a known supplier when I bought mine about a year ago. I did the LH RH swap also. Funny that they are now over $600.00 each now. Hmmmmm.... Oh well, that capitalism at it best. I don't think to this point that anyone has been able to...

    Update on Camper build w/pics

Its worth what ever someone is willing to pay for it. To me its priceless because it can go anywhere i want to go. And if i dont want to camp near others i dont have to. Yesterday i used it to pull 3 trees down that had to be removed. Roots and all! So its also my tractor around the property...

    FMTV Air Hydraulic Unit Repair

So, back when this post started i used it to repair my pump. However it never seemed to be quite right. So i took it out and had a guy who repairs floor jacks look at it. After about 3 days he said he finally got to it. He told me that everything inside looked very good condition, but what he...

    Update on Camper build w/pics

The perimeter frame is made of 2x3 steel for the strength to be able to 1. support the bike 2. be able to winch to the box to pull it back onto its wheels or keep it from tipping. If I was to hit a tree limb or boulder the skin will get bent but not the frame.

    Update on Camper build w/pics

I wish I had the knowledge to make a youtube video, my vcr still flashes 1200! LOL The truck handles very well on and off road. I did my emergency brake test from 25mph to stop. It was raining and it still stopped at full load in 10 feet. CHP was shocked and said that I had to stop in a max of...

    Update on Camper build w/pics

A few have been asking me for some pics of my camper build and a few have come to the house to look at it. So I figured I would post a couple pics. I am very much enjoying the truck and it really does go anywhere that I have wanted to go. I scratch it up and bounce off a few boulders now and...

1997 m-1078, two empty plugs behind the heater console?

I haven't found out where to plug the AC in yet. I have the fan power and the heater works but haven't tied in the AC yet. The posts that I have seen all seem to be adding AC to your A1 gen trucks. I guess they have the plugs already in the location. I will just have to work harder I guess.
