RE: Starter bracket
GM made a seperate bracket for the gear reduction starters, the local chevy dealer will be able to get you the bracket. Its the exact same housing as the 12v starter.
RE: Any one near Brooksville, FL 34601 going to the SS GA Ra
Chuck, I dont know if Kenny is flying up or planning on towing the m1009 home, but he is coming.
as far as the engine is concerned its a civilian 6.2L blazer.
use rotella 15w40 oil
DOT5 brake fluid unless someone has converted it to dot3 (take some out of truck add a few drops of water and shake like hell in a glass jar, if the water seperates back out after a while its still dot5)

NO, DO NOT ELEMINATE THE RELAY.
A lot of current flows through the glow plugs when they are on, you dont want to have that flowing inside your cab. The relay makes it so you dont need to have a 50amp rated switch with heavy guage wiring under your dash.
john, when your nose cones cracked, did you have the support bracket attached to the front of the starter?
I did have a cone crack on my truck once, looking at it, was not the best design, the replacement cone $20 looks much stronger.
I'd pull it and have a shop look at it. Darker fluid could have also been friction material in it, also pull the torque convertor and at the very least have it flushed.

The lift pump is not needed on these trucks, once running the IP will siphon enough fuel on its own.
If you do try what Crash is suggesting, pull the pink wire off of the injector pump. That way you dont suck air into the IP, and invite yourself for a day of fun bleeding the air out from all...
i really wonder why guys go through all this crap, just get the 24v starter rebuilt. It costs the same as having a 12v rebuilt.
You can get a spare (working pull from a cucv or hmmwv) for ~$50 off ebay.
